Lost in Regret: The Downward Spiral of Alexious Kamangila.
Alexious Kamangila’s reckless choices cost him more than he ever imagined. What began as a moment of indiscretion an affair with a household maid that resulted in pregnancy quickly unraveled his marriage.
His wife, blindsided and deeply hurt, chose to walk away, filing for divorce and closing that chapter of her life with finality.
More than three years later, Kamangila is still struggling to come to terms with the loss. By his own admission, he didn’t just lose a wife he lost a good woman.
Despite repeated attempts to reconcile, his ex-wife has remained resolute, refusing to revisit the past.
What has unsettled him most recently is the realization that she has moved on. She is now reportedly in a relationship with a well-established, affluent lawyer.
For Kamangila, this has been a bitter pill to swallow watching from a distance as the life he once had with his wife is rebuilt with another man he perceives as more stable, more successful… perhaps even better than him.
Unable to face this reality, Kamangila has grown increasingly withdrawn, even reluctant to return to Malawi, where the truth of his situation would confront him daily.
In a desperate attempt to escape both emotional and social discomfort, he recently sought political asylum from the Irish government.
However, his application was swiftly rejected, lacking any credible grounds or evidence of persecution.
Now, in what appears to be a troubling turn, Kamangila is contemplating a more drastic and calculated approach one that borders on self-sabotage.
There are indications he may be trying to provoke a situation that could be interpreted as a threat to his life, possibly to fabricate a basis for a renewed asylum claim.
So far, however, nothing has materialized,no threats, no attacks, just silence.
If anything, Kamangila remains alone in a situation of his own making, caught between regret, pride, and a reality he has yet to fully accept.
