The 36th Bulgarian Contingent invited NATO coalition partners from throughout Kandahar Airfield in Train, Advise, and Assist Command South to celebrate the 110th anniversary of the independence of Bulgaria. U.S. Army, Navy, and Air Force leaders attended the ceremony along with Romanian partners. Following the ceremony the Bulgarian Soldiers treated their guests to food and a show of their traditional dances.

"Since 2002 Romania has answered this mission in service to our NATO collation in Afghanistan and other theaters around the world. We are grateful for the brave men and woman who serve in the Romanian Armed Forces, and the continued support of the Romanian People," said Brig. Gen. Jeffrey Smiley, commander of Train, Advise, and Assist Command South during a transfer of responsibilities ceremony for the Romanian National Support Element. The ceremony, held on September 14 in Kandahar Airfield, Afghanistan, included the handover of responsibilities from Lt. Col. Adrian Banciu to Lt. Col. Constantin Oprica.
