Event: Building a Family Archival Website
The Arnold Family History Committee began in 1985 and published two family books (1993 & 2003). Archival material collected by the Committee and families, contributed in the building of a family archival website, launched in October 2023. Five Arnold brothers, with their mother, came from Silesia, in Prussia, to the new colony of South Australia in the mid nineteenth century.
This presentation will appeal to Arnold descendants and those interested in building a family archival site. Also presented are the IT skills learnt as we built this website.

The Arnold Family History Committee celebrated their 40th anniversary on Saturday 7 October 2023 with a wonderful tour of the Barossa Valley & Bethel visiting the burial sites of four of the Arnold brothers and placing QR codes at each site that now links to the newly launched Arnold Family History archival website.
We had a celebratory lunch at Two Hands winery in the beautifully renovated bakehouse, originally build by Carl Friedrich Arnold in the 1880s. Original Committee members Lorraine Powers & Dawn Bowman, along with Grace Schache, John Powers and siblings Christine, Robert and Michael Gates who created the new website.
We encourage Arnold family who have family archival material to contact us.

The Arnold Family History website continues to progress as Michael Gates builds the website supported by Christine Gates and Lorraine Powers who have designed the structure. There is still considerable material yet to be added over the next few months. Family members have contacted Christine via email as they discover family material that can be added to the website. We continue to work on the Arnold Family History website, which includes digital versions of the books "Changing Pastures Arnolds in Australia 1848 - 1993" and the supplement published in 2003.
The website has opportunity for family members to contribute archival information related to the original five brothers who came to Australia during the late 1800's.
Archival material of journals, family certificates related to birth, baptism, marriage and naturalisation are being downloaded. World War One post cards from a soldier to Helene Arnold and a journal from Maria Magdalena Dallwitz offer personal insights into our family history.
Observe as we build the website that focuses on the first four generations of the Arnold family in Australia.
Please contact us if you wish to contribute material to the website

The Arnold Family History committee is currently working on an archival website. We are scanning the family history books and family related material collected over many decades.
The website will focus on the first three generations in Australia which includes some 40 people. There are many interesting diaries, baptismal cards, photos and stories of places where our family settled.
Please contact us if you have old family photo albums, diaries, photos linked to first 3 generations & memorabilia from 1850's to early 1900's that are linked to our Arnold family.
Cheers Christine Gates

Silesia, now part of Poland, is the home region of the original 5 Arnold brothers and their mother. Over a ten year period during the mid nineteenth century the family migrated to the new colony of South Australia. For those without the 'Changing Pastures Arnolds in Australia 1848 - 1993' book, I have copied Chapter 1 Silesia - Homeland of Our Ancestors. Some descendants are planning, and have travelled, to visit Silesia and this information may offer insight into our original family from Europe.

I completed this album in 1980 in time for the golden wedding anniversary of my grandparents Harold & Toni Arnold. This albums celebrates their linear families and their parents and grandparents. A precious family photo album.
