Meet Ben from DHUD’s Growth and Infrastructure Coordination Unit.

Ben is the Manager, Growth Area Infrastructure Planning, helping plan and coordinate the infrastructure and services needed to support Adelaide’s growing communities.

After more than a decade working in strategic planning, most recently culminating in the release of the Greater Adelaide Regional Plan, Ben’s current role focuses on how major urban growth areas can be delivered in a coordinated way through tools such as infrastructure schemes.

His work brings together state government agencies, service providers, councils, and landowners to help determine how, when and where infrastructure is provided, connecting planning decisions with the services and facilities communities need to thrive.

Inspired by a lifelong curiosity about how places are created and shaped, Ben’s planning career began through local government and has grown into a passion for delivering practical solutions to complex challenges.

More homes are being approved, started, built and completed across South Australia, with every stage of the housing pipeline now at record levels.

The latest figures show 15,308 dwellings were approved in the 12 months to July 2026, the strongest annual approvals result in four decades and a clear sign of the momentum behind housing growth across the state.

This continued growth means more homes moving through the pipeline, helping create more housing opportunities for South Australians now and into the future.

He’s been part of the team behind Australia’s first-of-its-kind Digital Regional Plans and also uses drone surveys and photogrammetry to help monitor emerging housing developments.

Westfield West Lakes could help unlock 2,000 new homes, creating a vibrant new mixed-use development in one of Adelaide’s best serviced locations.

A proposed rezoning of the shopping centre is planned to make better use of the land, bringing new apartments and buildings up to 20 storeys while the shopping centre continues to trade.

This would be a textbook example of South Australia building up in the right location, with buses, bike links, shops and services already nearby; it’s about creating more homes in a place where people are already connected.

Rent to Own is expanding, with another 326 new homes coming to 38 suburbs across Adelaide. These homes will help renters save, plan and move towards owning a home of their own.

What is Rent to Own❓
Eligible South Australians can rent these homes at a discounted rate, helping them save up for a deposit. After two years, they get the opportunity to purchase the home at a locked-in price.

This new release brings the program to more than 450 homes across 47 suburbs.
