Total Fire Ban Continues tomorrow Saturday 10th January

04/12/2025

A large (600Ha)and fast moving fire is currently burning in the Borambola area which is responsible for the smoke clearly visible to the West of us.
At this stage it is still a long way away and heading into the evening should be contained.
If there are any significant changes we will try to keep you informed.
Jump onto the “fires near me” app for regular updates.

7pm. The Borambola fire has been downgraded to advice. The temperature and wind has been falling by the hour tipping conditions in favour of firefighters. A concerted effort will be made to make it safe for tomorrow’s forecast conditions.

In preparation of the upcoming fire season, members of the Riverina Highlands RFS will partner with volunteers and staff of various emergency service agencies across NSW and ACT to undertake aviation training in Tumut this weekend.

Low flying aircraft including bucketing helicopters and small fixed wing water bombing aircraft will be operating in the area of the Tumut Airbase and Bombowlee over the weekend.

This training is essential for our region, with the predicted very warm temperatures and dry conditions this upcoming fire season.

There are things our community can also do now to prepare for bush fire, such as trimming overhanging trees and shrubs, mowing and maintaining your lawn, clearing fallen debris and ensuring hoses can reach all corners of your home.
