Preparedness starts long before an emergency happens. 🔥🌪️🌧️
The Wichita Falls Fire Department created the Wildfire–All Hazards Coordinator position to help close the gap between emergency planning and emergency response.
This role focuses on reducing risk before disasters happen. Whether that’s wildfire mitigation, severe weather preparation, flooding response, ice events, or other all-hazard situations that impact our community.
By planning ahead, strengthening partnerships, and helping coordinate preparedness efforts, this position helps make Wichita Falls safer and more resilient year-round.
Preparedness is a community effort, and we’re committed to continuing that work every day.

Thanks for riding out with us Natalie McCain KFDX!
45 lbs of gear in 1,200° temps? Sounds like a job for the WFFD: OTC Not all heroes wear capes. Some of them wear 45 pounds of gear and an oxygen mask.
The most important wildfire preparation zone may be the one closest to your home. 🔥🏠
The home ignition zone includes the first 0–5 feet around your house, and keeping this area clear of flammable materials can help reduce wildfire risk.
Remove leaves, mulch, and wood piles
Use gravel, stone, or other noncombustible materials
Check vents and screens to help keep embers out
Choose outdoor furniture and décor that are less likely to ignite
Small changes can make a big difference when it matters most.
Protect the zone. Protect your home.

We would like to extend our sincere appreciation to Reliable Auto Salvage for their continued partnership and support in training for one of the most challenging tasks we perform.
By allowing Wichita Falls Fire Department personnel to train in realistic, non-emergency conditions, they play a vital role in helping our crews refine the life-saving techniques required during vehicle extrications. Their support directly contributes to improving the safety, efficiency, and effectiveness of emergency response efforts for our community.
Fire-resistant plants, proper spacing, and noncombustible landscaping materials can help slow the spread of wildfire and better protect homes, and the Fire Station 1 landscaping demonstrates how fire-wise design can make a difference. We were able to find these plants at Smith's Gardentown.

The Wichita Falls Fire Department would like to congratulate Fire Equipment Operator Kaleb Gresham on successfully passing his National Registry Paramedic Exam!
Kaleb is the first member of our current group going through paramedic school to complete the process, and we could not be more proud of the hard work, determination, and commitment he has shown throughout the program.
This milestone represents not only a major personal accomplishment for Kaleb, but also an important step forward for the Wichita Falls Fire Department as we continue working to enhance the level of medical care we provide to our citizens.
We would also like to recognize EMS Division Lieutenant Young and Firefighter Beutel for their tremendous efforts within the Training Division throughout this paramedic program. Their time, mentorship, and dedication have played a major role in helping support our members through a very challenging process.
Congratulations, Kaleb, and thank you all for continuing to lead by example.
Start small. Stay consistent. Protect your home.

Last week, the Wichita Falls Fire Department led a regional wildland fire chainsaw training, bringing together multiple partner agencies for hands-on, mission-focused instruction.
Developed and coordinated by our Wildfire & All-Hazards Coordinator and conducted in conjunction with the Texas A&M Forest Service, the training included both refresher and introductory courses, resulting in certification for participants and preparing over 20 personnel to support wildfire response, storm debris removal, and other all-hazard incidents.
This effort directly supports wildfire mitigation work in high-risk areas and highlights our continued commitment to preparedness, regional partnerships, and protecting our community. This is just the beginning of our ongoing mitigation efforts.
