Last Sunday, Wardell Rural Fire Brigade members held our first BBQ fundraiser Sausage Sizzle at Ballina Bunnings, that coincided with the annual Get Ready Weekend 🚒

We had the Information tent with tips and tricks for how to prepare you're home, property and family this fire season, a Raffle and
Giftbags for the kids (and big Kids 😅) and both appliances on display
(Before Wardell 1 got called to a fast moving Grassfire)

Congrats Lesley on winning the raffle which was very generously donated by Bunnings Ballina
A massive shout out to Lyss who is amazing at her job and assisted us with everything we needed
also like to thank Coles Goonellabah for their generous donation towards the day

All funds raised help us towards being able to help the community Better

🔥 GET READY WEEKEND – WARDELL RFS BBQ! 🔥

This Sunday 20th September, the Wardell RFS Volunteers will be at Bunnings running the BBQ as part of Get Ready Weekend! 👩‍🚒🔥

Come on down, grab a snag and a cold drink, and support your local RFS Volunteers while helping us raise much-needed funds to renovate our station.

🚒 Our Volunteers will be there with information and advice on how you can get ready for the upcoming fire season, including ways to prepare your home, family and property.

A better-equipped and more functional station means we can be better prepared to respond to future fire seasons and emergencies in our community.

Every sausage, every raffle ticket, every donation and every bit of support makes a difference. ❤️

The Bush Fire Danger Period (BFDP) commences on 01 September 2026 across the Far North Coast.
Fire permits are required during the BFDP and can be obtained for free by applying online at www.rfs.nsw.gov.au/notify or phoning 1300 632 174.

Cane Crushing Season Underway
The cane crushing season has now commenced, which means you may see cane fires occurring between Tweed Heads and Grafton until the end of the season, typically around mid-December.
These pre-harvest cane burns are carried out by experienced cane farmers and industry crews. While they can appear dramatic and, at times, look out of control, they are carefully planned, closely monitored, and well managed by personnel on site.
The fires are generally short-lived and extinguish quickly once the burn is complete. The burnt cane is then harvested shortly afterwards and transported for processing.
If you see a pre-harvest cane fire, please be assured that it is being managed safely and is well attended, even if it may be difficult to see the crews, particularly after dark.

Hey community!
You may have seen the Wardell crew members around the Fitzroy, Bath and Carlisle st areas
The crew have been out checking and clearing hydrant points around the town.

We found a few in pretty poor condition full
of sand and green ants but all cleaned and in working order now
Well maintained and visible hydrants are essential for crews to fill appliances in case mains water Is needed urgently

Every little bit helps the community and if you too would like to help.
