Please show your support and share...

The Golden City Support Service is excited to share that the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics Victoria will be coming through Bendigo on Friday 16 October 2026, ahead of the National Special Olympics Australia Games in Melbourne, which will celebrate the organisation’s 50th anniversary.

Adding to the excitement, Bendigo Special Olympics athlete Tara will not only be competing in the Games in the swimming events, but will also be participating in the Torch Run right here in Bendigo!

This is a fantastic achievement and a wonderful opportunity for us to show our support for Tara and all athletes involved in Special Olympics.

Event Details

📍 Starting Location: Bendigo Library Gardens, Hargreaves Street
🕤 9:30am: Athletes and supporters gather
🕘 9:45am: Participants form up
🏃 10:00am: Torch Run departs through the Bendigo C*D
🏁 Finish: Return to the Library Gardens for the lighting of the cauldron and a celebration ceremony

The event will be attended by local Police, Council representatives and community dignitaries as the torch makes its final Bendigo leg before the Melbourne Games.

How You Can Support

We encourage staff, participants and supporters to come along, bring plenty of energy, and help create a memorable atmosphere for Tara and the other athletes. Feel free to bring posters, streamers and plenty of encouragement as the torch passes through the city.

Let's make some time on 16 October to celebrate Tara’s incredible achievement and show the community spirit that GCSS is known for!

One of our partner organisations, Multicultural Connect Central Victoria , runs several programs from the Old Church and is looking for extra volunteers to support two of them:

1) English Social Club
Volunteers chat one-on-one with women learning English, giving them a chance to practice and build confidence.

2) Learn to Drive Program
Volunteers drive alongside women who have their L-plates and have already completed lessons with a professional instructor, not "teaching" driving, but helping women build up their hours in the car.

If you'd like to learn more about either role, get in touch with Kate on 0402 383 058 or [email protected].

A great oppotunity to make a difference in our community.
