🦆 A little different to our usual call-outs!

Last night around 9pm, crews from 458 Teralba were called to assist other agencies

On arrival, we were informed that a couple of little ducklings had become stuck in a drain.

After ensuring the safety of our crew, firefighters got to work to successfully rescue six little ducklings.

The whereabouts of their mum were unknown at the time, but we’re hoping the little ones will be reunited with her today

Not every rescue involves flames — sometimes it’s just about lending a helping hand

🚨community announcement 🚨

A hazard reduction burn is planned to be undertaken at Teralba (Lake Macquarie City Council) on Friday 2nd October 2026

If you live nearby, please consider doing the following:
- Keep doors and windows closed to prevent smoke entering buildings.
- Outdoor items such as outdoor furniture, trampolines, playground equipment etc should be either taken inside or covered. Where this is not practical, items should be hosed down regularly to prevent ember damage.
- Retract plastic or synthetic pool covers to prevent ember damage
- Remove washing from clothes lines.
- Ensure any outdoor pets have a sheltered area.
- If you have asthma or a lung condition, reduce outdoor activities. If smoke levels are high and if shortness of breath or coughing develops, take your reliever medicine or seek medical advice.
- If you are driving a vehicle, slow down, keep windows up and turn headlights on.

Never fly drones or Remote Piloted Aircraft near bush fires or hazard reductions, where other aircraft may be operating. Penalties apply.

🚒 HYDRANT AWARENESS – EVERY MINUTE COUNTS 💦

One of the biggest challenges firefighters face when attending a house fire is getting enough water.

Our fire appliances carry enough water for the initial fire attack, but we then rely on getting a reliable water supply from hydrants as quickly as possible.

The problem? A lush green lawn, garden, mulch or other landscaping built over or around a hydrant can make it difficult to find and access when we need it most.

⏱️ Every minute counts at a house fire.

That’s where you can help. If you have a fire hydrant on or near your property, please keep it clear, visible and easily accessible.

📸 The photos attached show a hydrant we attended today — before and after it was cleared.

A few minutes of keeping a hydrant accessible could make a real difference when firefighters need it.

🔥 We can all do our bit to help keep our community safe.
