Please find below the details regarding the 2026 IMWA World Masters (Adaptive) Weightlifting Championship in Athens- Greece.

From 1991 born Athletes:
A weightlifter can compete in IMWA Masters’ weightlifting events on the 1st January in the year he or she becomes 35 years of age regardless of the fact that the birth date may be as late as the 31st December. The same principle applies when an athlete reaches the next age group.

This is to ensure that there will be enough TECHNICAL OFFICIALS available during this 10 day big championship!!

Entry fees must be paid to the National Masters Chairs before the registration password/access code can be given to your athlete.
The password/access code is not to be shared freely.
Only eligible Masters (Adaptive) Athletes should be given this password for registration after payment.

Kindly note that from 2026 the EMWA includes now the Men and Women's Age Group 90+ at all European Masters (Adaptive) Weightlifting Championships.

2025 New IMWA Technical and Competition Rule voted in at the 2025 IMWA World Masters Congress: Continuing in Clean & Jerk after Failure in Sn**ch
In all IMWA Events, athletes having no valid lifts in the Sn**ch cannot post a total and will not be allocated team classification points. However, they may continue to participate in the Clean & Jerk competition and will be granted the usual three attempts in that competition. If the meet organizers decide to award separate medals for Sn**ch and Clean & Jerk (in addition to the official IMWA medals for total only; see 7.1), these athletes may be eligible to compete for medals in the Clean & Jerk only.

Nations, who need a LETTER OF INVITATION, for their VISA application at their nearest GREEK EMBASSY, must contact directly the Greek Masters organizer with a copy of at least 3 months valid passport after the end of this championship 26 September 2026!!

The IMWA will provide the entry code to national federations next week. The AWF will email instructions on how to pay the IMWA entry fee and get the code, to all registered AWF Masters lifters.

Note: The minimum age for competitors in IMWA events is 35.
