Today we're celebrating IT Professionals across NSW Health!

Meet Karthik, Program Manager with the eHealth Critical Infrastructure Refresh Program at eHealth NSW.

Behind every digital health system is a team working to keep it reliable, secure and ready for the future. Karthik leads large-scale infrastructure initiatives that support NSW Health’s critical healthcare systems, helping ensure clinicians can access what they need to provide safe and effective patient care.

One of Karthik's proudest achievements was helping deliver a world-first migration of the statewide Electronic Medical Record (eMR) environment working alongside stakeholders from NSW Health and the private sector.

For Karthik, technology is more than systems and infrastructure. It's about bringing people together, solving complex problems and delivering outcomes that make a real difference to clinicians, patients and communities.

"Technology is an important enabler, but understanding the purpose behind it is what allows you to make a meaningful impact." He says.

Artificial intelligence is moving quickly, and conversations about how we design, scale and adopt solutions safely and responsibly in healthcare have never been more important.

NSW Health’s first AI Forum, hosted in collaboration with eHealth NSW and the Clinical Innovation and Research Division at Macquarie University, brought together people from across the health system, research, industry, legal and digital technology to share ideas, examples and perspectives.

The program explored local and international insights into workforce readiness and system challenges, future-focused perspectives from leading digital health and AI innovators, and a showcase of AI in action across NSW Health, including stroke, breast screening and emergency care.

The Forum was a valuable opportunity to learn from each other, ask questions and continue building a shared understanding of how AI can support better care while keeping trust, safety and people at the centre.

This week, we came together for the 2026 eHealth NSW Awards to celebrate the people and teams whose expertise and dedication are helping make healthcare safer, simpler and more connected for patients, carers and clinicians.

It was also a powerful reminder that technology alone does not solve healthcare’s hardest challenges. People do ❤️

This year’s winners and finalists are strengthening critical infrastructure and cyber resilience, helping clinicians access the information they need, reducing language barriers for patients, and making it easier for people to raise concerns about their care.

Their work spans technology, data and design, but is united by a shared purpose: improving care for people across New South Wales.

Congratulations to every winner and finalist. Thank you for the passion, care and professionalism you bring to your work and for the difference you make every day.

These achievements are made possible through close collaboration with Local Health Districts, the Ministry of Health, NSW Ambulance, the Clinical Excellence Commission, the NSW Agency for Clinical Innovation, universities, community organisations and many others across NSW Health.

Finally, we were especially proud to recognise Joan Grillo at the awards, as she prepares to retire after 53 years with NSW Health.

Joan’s career began in nursing and midwifery at Auburn, Bankstown, Liverpool and Westmead hospitals. She later spent 25 years in health technology, including 15 years supporting and guiding colleagues as they built their careers in digital health.

Thank you, Joan, for the love and care you have given to so many people, and for the incredible legacy you leave behind 👏
