Please take care and consider your safety equipment and processes! There were four very lucky individuals on these two occasions, but unfortunately, not every incident ends that way.

National Volunteer Week 2025 (19–25 May) is a time to celebrate and acknowledge the incredible efforts of volunteers across Australia—including you, our valued Marine Rescue volunteers.

Your dedication in helping to save lives, supporting boaters in need, and keeping our waterways safe embodies the very spirit of volunteering. Whether you're on the water, behind the radio, or supporting operations, your time, skill, and commitment make a real difference—often in critical moments.

As part of a national community of nearly six million volunteers, you play a vital role in building stronger, safer, and more connected communities. While you may not seek recognition, this week gives us a chance to say thank you—for your service, your resilience, and the trust you help foster along every stretch of our coast and waterways.

Your vessel registration could save valuable time in an emergency. It’s one of the most critical details Marine Rescue uses to identify and assist you quickly. Take a few minutes to check your rego and update your details if needed. Every bit of accurate info helps us help you faster.

Are your vessel’s registration numbers hard to read? They are required to be clearly displayed midship on both sides of the hull and be of a specific size. For further information view:

There are so many benefits to using DECKEE, and setting reminders for important things like checking batteries in your safety equipment is one of them!

Have you set any reminders yet? Perhaps today is the day....

April 1st is a great day to check the batteries in your electronic visual distress signal (EVDS).
You can set reminders in the Deckee app too!
