Another fantastic year at the Illawarra Indigenous Business Expo!

This week, Illawarra Urgent Response was delighted to be invited back to the Novotel Wollongong for our third year being part of the Indigenous Business Expo!

We had the opportunity to showcase a range of our products and services, including our first aid kits, firefighting hoses, nozzles, and fire safety equipment, highlighting just some of the capabilities and solutions we offer through our business.

It was fantastic to connect with fellow businesses, meet so many visitors, and share our vision and services with those interested in what we do.

We were also pleased to welcome Lord Mayor Tanya Brown for her yearly catch-up at our display!

At Illawarra Urgent Response, we're proud to support local businesses, contribute to our community, and provide services that help keep events, workplaces, and the people around us safe.

A big thank you to the organisers for inviting us back again this year. We're proud to have been part of this event for the past three years and look forward to continuing to build strong local connections and supporting our community wherever we can.

💚💛 SUPPORTING JAZZ & RYAN TO CANCEL CANCER! 💛💚

At Illawarra Urgent Response, we love seeing people getting behind an important cause, and we want to give a massive shout-out to Jazz and Ryan from Team Cancel Cancer! 🚗💚

Jazz and Ryan are taking part in the 2026 Mystery Box Rally, taking their very hard-to-miss bright green car on an incredible adventure to raise money for Cancer Council and cancer research.

Cancer affects countless individuals, families and communities, including many right here in the Illawarra. What Jazz and Ryan are doing is an incredible way of turning an adventure into something that can make a genuine difference.

🎟️ THEY’RE ALSO RUNNING A RAFFLE!

Thanks to the support of Battle Axe Throwing Wollongong, Jazz and Ryan have 2 × $100 Battle Axe Throwing vouchers to give away!

Entries are just $5 each, and 100% of the money raised through the raffle goes directly towards Team Cancel Cancer and their fundraising efforts for cancer research.

To enter, donate $5 through their Team Cancel Cancer fundraising page and put “BA Raffle” in the donation notes. You can also purchase multiple entries by donating the corresponding amount.

🏆 Winners will be drawn on Wednesday, 21 October 2026.

If you’re in a position to donate, we encourage our community to get behind Jazz and Ryan. Whether you donate directly or have a crack at the raffle, every dollar helps support their fundraising.

And if donating isn’t possible right now, sharing their page costs nothing and can help their campaign reach someone who can.

From everyone at Illawarra Urgent Response, good luck Jazz and Ryan! We hope you absolutely smash your fundraising goal, and we can’t wait to see that little green car take on the Mystery Box Rally. 💚🚗

💚 World Mental Health Day 💚

Today, Illawarra Urgent Response stands with our local community in recognising World Mental Health Day.

Across the Illawarra, we look out for each other. Whether it’s a mate, family member, colleague, neighbour or someone you’ve only just met, sometimes simply checking in and genuinely listening can make a bigger difference than we realise.

Mental health struggles don’t always have visible signs. Someone can be smiling, working, volunteering, attending events and going about their normal day while carrying something incredibly difficult behind the scenes.

That’s why today is also an important reminder to be kind. Check in on your mates. Listen without judgement. And if you’re the person struggling, please know that asking for support is okay.

You don’t have to wait until things reach crisis point before reaching out.

📞 Lifeline: 13 11 14
📞 Beyond Blue: 1300 22 4636
📞 Kids Helpline: 1800 55 1800
🚨 If you or someone else is in immediate danger, call Triple Zero (000).

As a local organisation serving communities throughout the Illawarra and beyond, we believe looking after our community means looking after both physical and mental wellbeing.

Look after yourself. Check in on your mates. Be kind to each other. 💚

It was great to catch up with the Lake Illawarra Police District Youth Liaison Officers at the Warrawong NAIDOC Event on 29 September.

Our team had the opportunity to chat with the officers about their important role supporting young people and building positive connections within our local community.

Pictured with the officers is one of the talented local dancers who helped make the day such a fantastic celebration of culture and community.

Vale Constable Mia Lay

Illawarra Urgent Response is deeply saddened to hear of the tragic passing of NSW Police Constable Mia Lay, who lost her life in the line of duty in Redfern early this morning.

Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with Constable Lay’s family, loved ones, friends, and her colleagues across the NSW Police Force during this incredibly difficult and upsetting time.

This tragedy is a heartbreaking reminder of the risks and sacrifices our police officers make every day in service of our communities. They go to work to protect others, never knowing what the day or night may bring.

We also extend our thoughts to the officer who was injured in the incident, as well as the police officers, paramedics and other emergency personnel who responded to the scene.

Rest in peace, Constable Mia Lay. Thank you for your service.

From everyone at Illawarra Urgent Response, we stand with the NSW Police Force and Constable Lay’s loved ones during this incredibly sad time.
