Happy World Kangaroo Day! ๐Ÿฆ˜

Today is World Kangaroo Day and this year Screen Territory is celebrating the incredible international success of Kangaroo, a heartwarming Australian family film showcasing the Northern Territory's spectacular landscapes, unique wildlife and storytelling talent to audiences around the world. And what a journey it's been!

Inspired by the Territory's very own Chris 'Brolga' Barnes and the extraordinary work he does rescuing and rehabilitating kangaroos at The Kangaroo Sanctuary Alice Springs, the film is a wonderful celebration of our iconic wildlife and the people who dedicate their lives to protecting it.

Australia's highest-grossing Australian film of 2025, Kangaroo has continued to leap onto screens across the globe, becoming the highest-grossing Australian film in Germany in 25 years and debuting at No. 12 at the UK box office in January 2026.

The film also won Best Feature Film at the Screen Producers Awards and received a nomination in the same category at the AACTA Awards. Kangaroo is introducing audiences worldwide to the magic of the Territory.

With the film now screening on Qantas and HBO Max, and opportunities across streaming, television and education, Kangaroo will continue reaching new audiences for years to come.

This World Kangaroo Day, we're celebrating not only one of Australia's most iconic animals, but also the remarkable work of Chris 'Brolga' Barnes and the power of Territory stories to connect with audiences around the world.

Congratulations to the filmmakers, cast, crew and everyone involved in bringing this remarkable Australian story to life!

Tourism and Events NT, in partnership with Tourism Central Australia and Luxury Escapes, has launched a new campaign inspiring travellers to spend six nights exploring three iconic destinations: Alice Springs, Kings Canyon and UluแนŸu.

Featuring two holiday packages and offers from NT tourism operators, including Thrifty Car Rental, Crowne Plaza Alice Springs Lasseters, Discovery Parks - Kings Canyon and Ayers Rock Resort, the campaign makes it easier to discover more of Central Australia.

The campaign launched with Abbey Holmes and her family hitting the road to experience the regionโ€™s incredible landscapes and experiences firsthand.

By encouraging longer stays and travel across multiple destinations, the campaign aims to deliver richer visitor experiences while supporting local tourism operators and communities.
