Congratulations to Josh, Emanuel, Sam, Nicholas, and Josh for their outstanding efforts in the ACC Culinary Competition on Friday 22 May!
The team prepared Duck à l’Orange and a Lemon Myrtle–Infused Poached Pear, demonstrating great skill and creativity in both presentation and Indigenous dish ex*****on.
We are proud to share that the team received a Silver Medal for their entry—an excellent achievement and a reflection of their dedication, effort and teamwork throughout the competition. 🥈
This achievement wouldn’t have been possible without our dedicated Food Studies team, who dedicated additional time to train and prepare our students, and our staff who assisted with transport on the day.
Congratulations all, this was an amazing team effort!

On Thursday 7 May, select students from the Year 7, 8, and 9 Able & Ambitious program represented the College at the Da Vinci Decathlon held at PEGS, competing against some of Melbourne’s leading academic schools. 🎓
The Da Vinci Decathlon is a challenging academic competition that requires students to work collaboratively across ten disciplines, including Mathematics, Engineering, Science, English, Code Breaking, Cartography, and Creative Producers. Throughout the day, students were required to think critically, solve complex problems, and apply creativity under pressure.
All students represented the College with enthusiasm, resilience, and teamwork throughout the competition.
We are especially pleased to share that the Year 8 team achieved equal third place in Mathematics alongside Melbourne Grammar.
Congratulations to all students involved on their outstanding efforts and the way they represented the College!

On Friday, 22 May, a group of dedicated FIRE Carrier students proudly represented St Bernard’s College at the renowned ‘Long Walk to the G’.
This significant event draws inspiration from Michael Long’s historic Walk to Canberra, aiming to raise awareness and support for the health and life opportunities of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
Following the walk to the MCG, our students watched the iconic Dream Time match between Richmond and Essendon. This memorable experience was made possible thanks to the efforts of our dedicated staff and our valued partnership with the Essendon Football Club.
To be a FIRE Carrier is to exercise an important role at our school - these students have committed to learning about Aboriginal culture, and in the spirit of reconciliation, sharing this knowledge within and beyond the College community.
Thank you to Ms Novacek and Mr Lonsdale, for organising an amazing opportunity for our students to engage in meaningful advocacy and be part of a significant cultural event.

Our student athletes have been kicking goals this month, representing the College at two major state events! 🏃♂️
At the beginning of May we had several teams compete in the Athletics Victoria All Schools Road Relay Championships at Princes Park. With a time of 37:42, our senior team were rewarded with a third-place finish in the U20 event, less than 20 seconds off the winners at 37:23.
Next up, our intrepid team of students and staff ventured down to Apollo Bay for the Great Ocean Road Running Festival on 16 May. Competing in the 6km and 14km races, the team posted excellent results, with many finishing top 10 in their category.
A huge congratulations to students Patrick, Isaac and William, who came first in their age brackets! A shout-out also to teachers Ms Roberts, Mr Cox, Mr Sweeney, Ms Romanin, and Ms Van Wees, who all ran outstanding races.
Finally, last Saturday our cross country students claimed a silver medal in the Athletics Victoria Jells Park Road Relays—improving from bronze to silver in less than a month and showing that their hard work is paying off!
Our athletes continue to train hard and we look forward to more events, including the annual City2Surf, later in the year.

Last Wednesday the senior football sides of St Bernard’s College and Parade College played in the annual Madden-Bedford Shield game at Waterford Oval.
Parade College welcomed our senior side, coaches and senior leadership team for a special pre-match ceremony, with AFL icons and shield namesakes Simon Madden and Peter Bedford as special guests. Then it was on to the game, where despite a great effort from our boys, Parade claimed the shield with a strong performance, winning 74-51.
Congratulations Parade College and thank you for hosting us as we continue this great tradition between our two schools!

That's a wrap on Languages Week!
Our students immersed themselves in the rich cultures of Japan and Italy through some fantastic activities.
🤺 Kendo Incursion: Our Year 9 Japanese students learned the traditional martial art of Kendo with the Melbourne Budokai Kenshikan Dojo, practising the techniques of the Shinai bamboo sword.
🎭 Commedia Dell'arte: A form of theatre and sketch comedy that originated in Renaissance Italy, our talented guest performers brought Commedia dell'arte's archetypal characters to life in a zany performance for our Year 9 Italian students.
🥁 Taiko Drumming: Our Year 7 students got involved in a lively demonstration of taiko, drums and percussion instruments used in Japan for over a thousand years.
👨🍳 Cannoli Workshop: Who better to teach how to make cannoli than our local experts at Cannoli Bar in Avondale Heights? Year 10, 11 and 12 students followed their demonstration and made their own cannoli to enjoy (we tried to tell them to bring some home for their families, but it may have fallen on deaf ears...)
Students also had the opportunity to try delicious Bento boxes at lunch on Wednesday, a tasty packed lunch that is popular in Japanese schools.
Thank you to our incredible presenters and artists for inspiring our students, and to our dedicated staff for making these amazing opportunities possible!
Grazie mille! ありがとう!
