Eaglehawk Angus Eaglehawk Angus are renowned for natural thickness, longevity, maternal, performance & consistency. The Vivers family have a rich history in breeding cattle.

The Vivers settled the Kings Plains Valley between Inverell and Glen Innes in 1832. The Eaglehawk cattle are run under very commercial conditions. We calve 650 registered cows per year plus a commercial herd to test our progeny and to use as recipients for our embryo programs. Deep, high volume, structurally correct, easy doing cattle are what we do here at Eaglehawk. We like to think we are good custodians of our beautiful land. We fertilise our soils naturally and rotationally graze our herd over our 9000 acres. We just love what we do and we hope you enjoy partaking in our page. We certainly encourage you all to participate and use this valuable resource to its full.

➡️Pasture Portal helps you work out what to plant before you start ringing around for seed.

Soil type, rainfall, pH and where you are all play a part in what will actually suit your country.

Our nephew Lachie is one of the people behind Pasture Portal, along with Zac, and they’re building the platform across both subtropical and temperate pasture systems, making it relevant to producers across a much wider part of Australia.

We caught up with Lachie for a yarn about the idea, how it works and where they’re taking it.

If you’re thinking about improving a paddock or wondering what might actually suit your country, have a look at Pasture Portal or get in touch with the team.

There’s a time to collect the data. And a time to leave well enough alone. Every calf is tagged, weighed and recorded.
🔺But if a young cow is still cleaning her calf, settling and bonding, we come back later.

The weight will still be there later in the day.

👌🏿Good stockmanship is knowing when not to interfere.

No piece of data is worth upsetting a cow and newborn calf to get it.

For anyone still planning a new fence line the old fashioned way, this might come in handy.

We use AgriWebb, but we're sure there are other apps that do something similar. Ian shows how we've been using the mapping tool to plot a proposed fence line on the computer, then take it out into the paddock and find points for strainers etc. on the ground.

You can also measure the proposed fence length before you start, which is pretty handy when you're working out materials.

👍Just one of those little jobs technology has made a bit easier.

Not exactly how Dad used to do it.

Could this be your next chapter❓ We are looking for a retired or semi retired person or couple to live on and help caretake our beautiful Maiden Creek property, 65 km east of Armidale.

In return for an agreed amount of general property care, we offer rent free accommodation in a comfortable four bedroom country cottage.

A rural background isn't essential. We are much more interested in someone practical, capable and trustworthy. A trades, mechanical or hands on background could be just the fit.

A bit of mowing, occasional firewood, caring for our dogs when we're away, checking water from time to time and generally keeping an eye on the place. No regular cattle work.

Finding the right person matters far more to us than filling the cottage quickly.

Full details on our website. ⬇️
