Clinical Nurse Rebecca Westacott reminds us that keeping patients safe isn’t just about one role or one moment — it’s about everyone working together.

Rebecca is an experienced front-line nurse now working with the Clinical Products Alerts and Advisory Unit.

The Unit follows‑up product and consumable complaints, actions product recalls, assesses requests for new products, and sources alternatives to manage supply issues.

“Equipment, devices and products need to be safe and compliant, because the tools we use every day are critical for patient safety,” Rebecca said.

Rebecca has a simple, empowering message for her fellow clinicians: “you matter”.

“Our role is to keep our patients and staff safe at all times through device and product compliance,” she said.

“We can’t do that without staff who are empowered to make reports about the issues they face.”

Clinical Nurse Chloe describes working in the emergency department as playing a team sport.

"We all work together with the shared goal to win - in that we help the patient," she said.

"I love the teamwork that we have here, and everyone is very supportive."

Chloe did a two-year stint as a paramedic in London✈️ before coming back to Australia and studying nursing.

She's now one of our Nurse Practitioner candidates at Robina Hospital, which will advance her skills even more in the ED.

Jenny Llambi began her career 10 years ago on B5N Respiratory Ward at Gold Coast Health, where she worked through the challenges of the COVID pandemic, helped implement the Respiratory High Care Unit, and supported nurses caring for acutely unwell patients.

From the respiratory ward to a clinical nurse within community care, Jenny has built an inspiring career grounded in compassion and leadership, which was made evident at the recent 2026 Nursing and Midwifery Excellence Awards, where she was announced as the Community Nursing winner. 🤩 ✨

“Winning the community nursing award was an unexpected and wonderful surprise, and it affirmed this is exactly where I am meant to be,” she said.

A year ago, Jenny made the move to community nursing, where she says her favourite part of the role is watching clients gain the confidence to self-manage their chronic disease through programs like pulmonary rehabilitation.

Jenny described the recognition as both unexpected and deeply meaningful, crediting the supportive Helensvale community nursing team for helping her grow into the nurse she is today. 🧡

Sarah originally planned to be a forensic scientist, but after a last-minute career pivot into radiography, she never looked back.

She's been with our Robina team for nearly 20 years (we know what you're thinking - she doesn't even look a day over 20... she says it's the radiation) and always brightens staff and patients' days with her bubbly personality. ✨

"I love how every day is different," Sarah said.

"There's a lot of variety with x-rays, CT scans and
mammography."

🤔What's an ordinary day in her life?

"I am up early getting my three kids ready, come here and save some lives, then go home and do it all again." ⭐

Some of the most important work happening in emergency care isn’t always seen.

It’s the research that goes on, often quietly in the background – that looks at ways in which health disparities for vulnerable patients can be reduced. 💙

Dr Julia Crilly’s research is helping shape more compassionate, person-centred emergency care, with a focus on supporting some of the community’s most vulnerable populations across Robina and Gold Coast University Hospital’s Emergency Departments.

“I’m most proud of how research within Gold Coast Health has progressed over the past 20 years,” she said.

“We’ve been able to lead and collaborate with others to inform meaningful changes in patient care and service delivery locally, across Queensland and across Australia.”

Dr Crilly will be sharing more about her research, the people behind it, and why this work matters at the Emergency Care Research Symposium on 25–26 June.

Today our staff came together to celebrate Crazy Socks4Docs Day, using bright socks as a conversation starter and a reminder to check in with one another. ✨

A simple conversation can have a powerful impact. Sometimes, asking “How are you really doing?” is exactly what someone needs to hear.

Standing alongside people during some of their most challenging moments is all in a day’s work for senior social worker, Madeleine. 🌻

Her first job out of university was with the team at Robina Hospital, and from day one she knew it was where she belonged.

“I found my space here and I haven’t wanted to leave," she said.

“You get to walk alongside people during important moments in their lives, and that’s a really special thing."

Working in collaboration with doctors, nurses and allied health professionals, Madeleine helps patients leave hospital safer, supported and informed.

“Our shared goal is to support patients through their hospital journey and help them leave in a better position than when they came in.”

“When a patient or family thanks you and says you really helped them, that makes it all worth it.” 💛

We’re excited to welcome local Gold Coast artist Michelle Le Plastrier to Robina Hospital this week as she begins painting a brand‑new mural in our Book Nook. 🎨📚

Michelle’s vibrant, coloured-filled style will be bringing the space to life. Stay tuned to see the finished artwork - it’s going to be something special!🖌️🖼️

Gabrielle grew up in Fiji, where her mum worked with the Red Cross.

After experiencing two major cyclones that devastated her community, she saw firsthand the power of people coming together in moments of crisis.

It’s part of what inspired her to become an emergency nurse - something she describes as an 'ecosystem' where everyone works together.

"There’s so much respect for everyone’s role - Doctors, nurses, admin, AINs - we’re all seen equally," Gabrielle said.

"No one is valued above the other. I love that respect element, and that we know if we don’t work together, we won’t get anywhere."

Gabrielle has been with Gold Coast Health for six years (four of those at Robina), and she can’t imagine doing anything else.

"I’m naturally someone who wants to help others and emergency in particular is where I’m really driven," she said.

"Thinking about what I wanted to do with my life, that field of work sparked my enthusiasm. I love the fast‑paced nature of it, the critical thinking. No day is the same."
