For any Banksia carers and families who have lost a loved one through our service, we invite you to join us for Banksia's annual Remembrance Service.

This event is not religious, nor culturally specific and open to anyone who has engaged with Banksia's service. It's an opportunity to take the time to remember loved ones who have died along with others within the Banksia community.

When: Wednesday 9 December 2026
Time: 7-8.30pm
Where: Our Lady of Mercy College Theatre.

Meet Talia, one of Banksia’s registered nurses.

After ten years of refining her craft as a nurse in hospitals, Talia joined Banksia six months ago. She was looking for a job which aligned with her care values which are person-centred, individualized, and autonomous.

“When we care for people in their homes, they don’t have to do what we tell them. I like that. Autonomy is a lost art, and I like giving people choice over what they’d like their care to look like. Health is different for everyone, and I believe so should be their care.”

At Banksia we place the wishes and needs of clients at the centre of the support we provide. To Talia this is important, and she feels a deep gratitude for being welcomed into people’s homes to provide this individualized care. “People are so much more comfortable in their homes than in hospitals. It’s a privilege to be a part of someone’s health journey and their death.”

Calling all clinical and allied health professionals working in palliative care! This professional development is for you! ✨

This is a full day seminar that explores the psychological dimensions of end-of-life care equipping participants with the skills to identify, assess and respond to the emotional and complex mental health needs of patients and their carers.

Recognizing the emotional demands of working in palliative care, the workshop will also address clinician wellbeing, offering strategies for self-care and sustainable professional practice.

Banksia is raising funds that we can put directly towards making overnight nursing available to more of our clients and families. We aim raise $20,000 by the end of this year.

We want to be able to offer our families overnight respite by providing a nurse who can stay in the home through the night. They would monitor symptoms, provide comfort, reassurance and support to families while they step away from the bedside for a few hours to get some rest.

Banksia's specialist palliative care is provided free of charge to our community. Government funding supports the core care we provide, but it doesn't cover everything a family may need at the end of life.

Your donation would help give a family a little more rest, more reassuance, and another night at home together.

This morning Banksia appeared at Nillumbik Shire Council for an Advance Care Planning (ACP) Workshop.

We had Ella from Northern Health hospital share her expertise on ACP and Banksia's volunteer Ros speak about her lived experience working through ACP for her partner. We then had small break out group discussions facilitated by a team of Banksia staff and volunteers.

We always learn so much at these events! Thank you to for inviting us and Northern Health for teaching us.

💙 This National Carers Week, we’re thinking of the people who care.

Caring for someone with a life-limiting illness can be exhausting, emotional and, at times, overwhelming – especially when the night comes.

Our Overnight Nurse Campaign is raising funds to help Banksia provide overnight nursing support to people who need palliative care at home. Having a nurse there during the night can give families reassurance, provide expert care and, importantly, allow carers to get some much-needed rest.

Every donation helps us support people to remain at home, surrounded by the people and things that matter most.

Did you know Banksia offers massage to carers of our clients?

Caring for someone living with a life-limiting illness can be physically and emotionally demanding. Carers often put their own needs aside while focusing on the person they love.

Taking a little time for yourself isn’t selfish - it’s an important part of caring for yourself, too.

Banksia offers carers a 50-minute massage as part of the support available to families. It’s an opportunity to pause, relax and have some time that’s just for you.

Carer massage is one of the many ways Banksia supports the wellbeing of carers, alongside counselling, education and other practical and emotional support.

Did you know that counselling is one of the services Banksia offers to carers?

When someone you love is living with a life-limiting illness, there can be a lot to navigate. Carers may experience a mix of emotions - love, sadness, worry, frustration, guilt, uncertainty and even relief. Anticipatory grief can also begin long before someone dies.

Banksia has psychologists who provide counselling and emotional support to our clients, their family members and carers. Having someone to talk to can provide a safe space to work through the emotions and challenges that can come with caring for someone who is unwell.

Counselling is just one of the many free services Banksia provides to support people and families living with life-limiting illness.

Today we are celebrating National Carer's Week (11 - 17 October) to raise awareness of the more than 3 million Australians who provide unpaid care to a family member or friend. Some of those carers are caring for someone with a palliative condition and we meet them in the homes of those we visit.

We do not underestimate the job that carer's do. At Banksia, we consider carers to be at the forefront of our palliative client's journey. We work alongside carers in homes as well as offer them individual support along the palliative care journey.

On days like these its nice to stop and remember that Banksia Palliative Care is a part of a global network of service providers who are caring for people at the end of their lives.

We are very proud of the work we do, using our expertise to manage the palliative symptoms of illness, including pain. We believe everybody should be entitled to a comfortable, dignified and pain free death and we're their servicing our community with this intention at our heart. 🧡
