๐Ÿจ MUNDOOLUN ROAD โ€“ PLEASE SLOW DOWN. OUR KOALAS ARE CROSSING.

A wonderful sight recently captured on Mundoolun Road โ€“ a koala safely making its way across the road, with motorists stopping and patiently allowing it to cross. โค๏ธ

There are more koalas along Mundoolun Road than many motorists realise. This isn't just an occasional koala passing through โ€“ this stretch of road is home to koalas, and they regularly move between trees and habitat in search of food, territory and mates.

Sadly, only a few weeks ago, a mother koala and her joey were hit by a vehicle along this same stretch of road. Incidents like this are a heartbreaking reminder of the dangers our local wildlife face every day.

With koalas becoming increasingly active during breeding season, we are asking all motorists travelling along Mundoolun Road to:

๐Ÿš— Slow down, particularly between dusk and dawn.
๐Ÿจ Stay alert and watch for koalas near the roadside and crossing the road.
โš ๏ธ Take extra care in signed koala zones.
โค๏ธ If you see a koala crossing, slow down, switch on your hazard lights if safe to do so, and give it time to cross.

A few seconds of patience could save a life.

If you spot an injured koala or other wildlife, please contact a wildlife rescue organisation for assistance. Don't attempt to handle an injured koala yourself.

We are incredibly fortunate to still have koalas living in our local area. Let's do our part to make sure they have a safe place to call home.

Please share this post and help spread the word. Our local koalas are counting on us. ๐Ÿ’š

๐Ÿฃ A little fluff ball in need of a helping hand! ๐Ÿ’š

Our Logan Wildlife Ambulance recently responded to a callout in Greenbank after this adorable tawny frogmouth chick was blown out of its nest during the storms.

Thankfully, the little one appeared to be okay, but we weren't taking any chances! Our team safely transported the chick to the RSPCA for a thorough veterinary assessment.

Storms can be particularly challenging for young wildlife, and sometimes a little help is all they need.

A big thank you to the community member who spotted this little one and reached out for help. Every call makes a difference! ๐Ÿ’š

๐ŸŒฟ๐Ÿจ Save the Koala Day ๐Ÿจ๐ŸŒฟ

Today is a reminder of why the work we do to restore and protect koala habitat matters.

At William Humphreys Park in Mundoolun, Logan Wildlife Association has been working on regeneration and habitat restoration to help bring native vegetation back and create a healthier landscape for our local wildlife.

And weโ€™ve already had some very special visitors. ๐Ÿ’š

Weโ€™ve recorded four koalas using the area โ€” three of them females โ€” and sadly, all three females were found to have Chlamydia. ๐Ÿ˜”

The koala pictured is one of these beautiful girls.

Seeing koalas return to regenerating habitat is incredibly encouraging, but it also highlights the challenges they face. Healthy habitat is an important part of giving koalas the best chance to survive, move through the landscape, find food and raise their young.

This Save the Koala Day, weโ€™re celebrating the koalas weโ€™ve been lucky enough to encounter โ€” while continuing the work to make William Humphreys Park a better place for koalas and all our local wildlife.

๐Ÿ’š Protect habitat. Restore habitat. Protect our koalas. ๐Ÿจ

Exciting things are happening at William Humphreys Park, Mundoolun! ๐ŸŒฟ๐Ÿฆ˜

As part of our habitat regeneration works funded through the Queensland Government's Grassroots Environmental Grants Program, we've been monitoring the area with camera traps to see how local wildlife is responding to the removal of lantana and other invasive w**ds.

The results have been incredible so far, with sightings of a range of macropods and birds, possums, bandicoots, and even a koala! ๐Ÿจ

We're looking forward to sharing more of these amazing wildlife discoveries over the coming months, but for now here's a sneak preview โ€” a beautiful Eastern Grey Kangaroo mum and joey, now able to move more freely through habitat that was previously choked by dense w**ds.

Every w**d removed helps reconnect habitat and create safer spaces for our local wildlife. ๐Ÿ’š
