Still got your ballot papers on the kitchen bench? Today’s the day to post them!

The TEC says today, Wednesday 21 October, is the last recommended day to post your vote so it arrives in time.

Miss the post? You can still drop your completed ballot pack into Launceston Town Hall before 2pm on Tuesday 27 October.

Voting is compulsory, with penalties applying this year. Please make sure your voice is counted.

How lucky are we to have places like this right in the heart of Launceston?

The beautiful Val d’Osne Fountain in Princes Square is one of those familiar sights we can walk past without stopping to appreciate.

It was brought from France to celebrate Launceston’s first piped water supply, completed in 1857. By 1859, the fountain was flowing, and more than 160 years later, it’s still giving us a reason to pause and enjoy our surroundings.

Our parks, gardens and historic features contribute so much to our city’s character.

Next time you’re passing through Princes Square, take a moment to stop and look. There’s plenty to love about the place we call home.

What’s your favourite feature of Launceston?

Kath Hawkins is passionate about doing all we can to support our homeless and she asked me to contribute my thoughts.

Everyone deserves somewhere safe to sleep, and you’re right to demand practical action.

I will push for Council, Homes Tasmania and frontline services to identify suitable government-owned land for supported temporary accommodation, including modular homes, while permanent housing is delivered.

The State Government’s housing target runs to 2032. People sleeping rough need help now. A vacant block offers plenty but we need a roof to offer dignity.

Council can help identify sites, work through planning requirements and press for funding. I want clear delivery dates and public reporting on people moving into safe, stable housing.

I cannot promise to solve homelessness alone, but I can commit to pursuing practical options and keeping pressure on those responsible for delivering them.

As ballot packs begin arriving in letterboxes, I wanted to share my candidate statement with you.

Since being elected, I’ve worked hard to be visible, approachable, accessible and accountable as your City of Launceston Councillor.

https://rossmarsden.com.au/

I believe in a safe, welcoming and vibrant city, a strong local economy, responsible spending and a Council that listens to its community.

It’s been a privilege to represent you. I’m asking for your support to continue as your Councillor and serve as your Deputy Mayor.

Please take the time to read the candidate statements and consider who you’d like representing you.

Vote 1 Ross Marsden for Councillor and Deputy Mayor.

Thank you for your support.

I had the pleasure of working alongside Paul Scambler during my media days. A talented photographer, a true professional and a thoroughly good person.

Paul’s photographs have captured so much of our community’s story, preserving moments and memories that will last long beyond his working years.

Thank you, Paul, for your contribution and your friendship. Wishing you a happy retirement, although I suspect the camera won’t be gathering dust anytime soon! 📸

Time to spring forward, Launceston! Move your clocks ahead one hour tonight. Finally, a chance to fast-forward through something other than a Council meeting! 😂

🕑 Daylight saving starts at 2am this Sunday 4 October - don't forget to put your clocks forward one hour.

☀️ Spring is in full swing, so get ready to make the most of those extra hours of sunshine.
