When did you last have your hearing checked? 👂

I recently had a free hearing check with Hearing Australia, and it’s a good reminder to make time for our hearing health.

Hearing Australia offers FREE 15-minute hearing checks for anyone aged 18 and over, with no referral needed.

If you’ve been turning up the television or finding conversations harder to follow, why not book a check?

Thanks to the Hearing Australia team for checking mine!

I was proud to share the good news about Bell Bay Aluminium in Parliament this week, and what it means for 550 workers, their families and our Northern Tasmanian community.

Thank you to Bell Bay Advanced Manufacturing Zone our local councils and businesses, and everyone who stood up for Bell Bay’s future.

After 18 months of uncertainty, this is an outcome worth celebrating.

An incredible achievement for one of Bass's talented young people!

The WorldSkills International Competition is the Olympics of skills and trades, bringing together the world's best young professionals to compete at the highest level.

This year, our very own Rubi Everard represented Australia in Beauty Therapy at the WorldSkills competition in Shanghai, earning a Medal for Excellence!

Today, we celebrated Rubi and her fellow Skillaroos at Parliament House, recognising the extraordinary dedication, training and hard work it takes to represent Australia on the world stage.
Rubi has put countless hours into developing her skills, all while balancing the demands of training and preparing for international competition.

We are so proud of her achievement and the way she has represented both Australia and our community in Bass.

A huge congratulations to Rubi and all the Skillaroos! You've shown just how much talent, determination and potential our young Australians have, and what can be achieved through vocational education and training.

What a wonderful achievement, Rubi!

Lovely to drop in to the Veterans’ & Families’ Centre coffee morning last week! ☕️

A cuppa and a friendly chat can make a real difference, and it’s great to see the Centre and Legacy Launceston working together to support veterans and their families across Northern Tasmania.

Veterans and family members are welcome to drop in for a complimentary coffee, connect with support services or have a chat with the Wellbeing and Compensation Advocates.

📍 Legacy Launceston office, 59 York Street
🗓 Every Thursday and Friday
⏰ 9:30am to 2pm

Thank you to the volunteers who make this welcoming space possible and help ensure veterans and their families don’t have to navigate support alone.

If you or someone you know could benefit, pop in and say hello.

Today marks 25 years since Australians first went to war in Afghanistan.

It was a privilege to hear from two veterans today, Major Peter Williams (Retd) and Chief Petty Officer Amy Vickers (Ret), who have both continued to give so much to our communities long after their military service ended.

Peter spoke powerfully about the responsibility governments carry when sending Australians to war, and how that responsibility must continue long after they return home.

Amy reminded us of the extraordinary role community plays in helping veterans reconnect, find belonging and rediscover purpose beyond military service.

I’m deeply grateful to Peter and Amy, not only for their service to our country, but for the care, compassion and commitment they continue to show our veterans and wider community.

Today, we remember those who never came home, honour all who served, and recognise those whose lives were forever changed.

Who’s your Legend of Launceston? 🌟

Perhaps it’s your dad, a coach, a volunteer, a mate or a young person who always looks out for others.

I’m inviting you to nominate local men and boys who make a positive difference in our community. They don’t need to be famous or have a long list of achievements. Sometimes it’s the small, everyday acts of kindness that mean the most.

We’ll celebrate our local legends at Riverbend Park on Friday 20 November, in partnership with World Street Eats, to mark International Men’s Day.

Help us give them the recognition they deserve.
