Getting smoke alarms right involves more than attaching a few alarms to the ceiling. The correct alarm type, number, positioning, power source and interconnection all matter—especially with Queensland’s 1 January 2027 deadline approaching.

😳 “REPLACE DETECTOR BY YEAR 2010”

It’s 2026… this one was well overdue for retirement!

Found during an upgrade in Ooralea this morning, this old ionisation smoke alarm has a date code of 15/10/01—just eight days short of 25 years old. I was in Grade 10 back then! 😂

It was still operating, too. And judging by the bugs built up behind it, it had become a home of its own! 🪳😬

The home now has interconnected photoelectric smoke alarms from the RED Professional range, backed by a 10-year warranty. When one sounds, they all sound. 🏡🙌

Another Mackay family protected, and one very overdue retirement!
