Meet the Team π
Say hello to three of our wonderful instructors who help make lessons at WestSwim so special!
Amy M
Our resident baby and toddler wrangler! Amy teaches across the weekends and has over 5 years of teaching experience. Coming from a family of swimming siblings, sheβs always loved being in the water. When sheβs not in the pool youβll likely find her crocheting, eating tacos, or watching Tangled.
Alex H
One of our newer instructors, Alex joins us from NSW and is also one of our Westminster boarders. She comes from a very sporty family and was a swimmer herself. Alex also plays netball, loves spaghetti, and has one unusual fear⦠birds!
Abby F
Abby has been part of our team for around 3 years and is currently studying Child Development at uni. Youβll often see her working with our babies program at WestSwim. Abby has a gentle teaching style and is absolutely adored by our littlest swimmers. Outside the pool she loves reading, and her favourite food is mango.
Weβre lucky to have such a fantastic team supporting our swimmers every week! ππββοΈ

π Laps for Life β Week 1 complete!
What an incredible start! By the end of the weekend, we had raised $1,934 and swum a collective 49.8km! πββοΈπͺ
Every lap and every dollar counts towards raising awareness for youth mental health initiatives and su***de prevention. A huge thank you to everyone involved β your effort truly makes a difference.

πββοΈ A big weekend for two of our WestSwim athletes!
This past weekend our coaching team had the pleasure of celebrating the achievements of two young swimmers competing at their very first State Long Course Championships β James and George.
Both swimmers train in our WestSwim Development Squads and are proud members of Unley Swim Club as part of the current Westminster / Unley Swimming Alliance, which brings the two programs together as we move toward a formalised partnership ahead of the 2026/27 long course season. This year marks our initial trial year, and itβs incredibly exciting to see our swimmers already making their mark at state level.
James competed in:
β’ 50m Breaststroke
β’ 100m Breaststroke
β’ 50m Backstroke
George competed in:
β’ 50m Backstroke
β’ 50m Freestyle
β’ 50m Breaststroke
β’ 100m Breaststroke
β’ 100m Freestyle
George went on to make three state finals, placing:
π₯ 8th in the State β 50m Backstroke
π₯ 7th in the State β 50m Breaststroke
π₯ 7th in the State β 100m Breaststroke
For two swimmers attending their first ever State Championships at the young age of 11yrs, this is an incredible effort and something the whole team is very proud of.
π Huge congratulations James and George β we canβt wait to see what comes next!

π WestSwim is Taking on Laps for Life! π
This March, the WestSwim team is diving in for the Laps for Life challenge β raising vital funds and awareness for youth mental health and the prevention of youth su***de.
As swim instructors, we work with young people every single day. We see their courage, their growth, their resilience β and we know how important it is that they feel supported both in and out of the water. This cause is incredibly close to our hearts.
πββοΈ Our goal:
β Swim 100km collectively
β Raise $1,000
π
All throughout the month of March
Every lap we swim and every dollar raised goes towards supporting young people who may be struggling.
We would absolutely love our WestSwim community to get behind us. If youβre able to:
π Donate even $5
π Share this post to spread awareness
π Cheer us on when you see us clocking up the kilometres
It all makes a difference. Here's our team link π https://www.lapsforlife.com.au/fundraisers/WestSwim
Together, we can create waves of change β in the pool and in our community.

π Goggles = confidence in the water (most of the time!)
For many children, good quality goggles arenβt just a βnice to haveβ β they help kids feel comfortable opening their eyes underwater, staying relaxed, and building confidence with bubbles, floating and early swimming skills. Goggles reduce the distraction of hair over the face and support body positioning awareness while swimming.
When are goggles needed:
π£ Babies & toddlers: not essential at first, but great once little faces start going in. We actually prefer that little ones are comfortable without goggles to begin with!
π Preschoolers: often the sweet spot β goggles really support submersion, floating and early independence at this stage of learning.
π School-age swimmers: important for technique, endurance and stroke development.
That said β when weβre teaching water safety, we intentionally remove goggles! Real life doesnβt give kids time to find their goggles if they accidentally fall in, so itβs important they can cope without them too.
Itβs all about balance.
Comfort + confidence + real-world skills. π
Because calm swimmers learn best.

π Meet the Leadership Team! π
Behind every great swim lesson at West Swim is a team of passionate leaders making waves both on the pool deck and in the water. Say hello to Suzie, Bella, and Connor β three of our amazing swim school supervisors! π
β¨ Suzie β 7 years teaching (6 of them at West Swim!) and a familiar face on poolside. Once a mum cheering her kids on at competitions, sheβs now helping countless little swimmers progress. Favourite stroke? Breaststroke, of course! Ocean lover, assessment queen, and instructor mentorβ¦ oh, and bring her waffles and youβre best friends for life. π§π
β¨ Bella β just back from an exciting gap year at an American Summer Camp! Sheβs our bubbliest team member, a natural with kids, and a Westminster school graduate and former swim team captain. Watch out for her in the pool β she swims a mean butterfly and this little ray of sunshine also champions our Laps for Life program. π¦
β¨ Connor β our water safety guru! With a surf lifesaving background, heβs full of knowledge on keeping kids safe in and around water. Fun fact: heβs petrified of spiders π·οΈ but melts for cheesecake (squad swimmers, that's your hot tip for an easy session!). π°
Together, these three not only supervise and lead our instructors but also keep teaching and coaching regularly to keep their skills sharp. Youβll often see them on poolside supporting lessons, doing assessments, or mentoring our team.
