On Friday night Marsden Park Rural Fire Brigade hosted our annual graduation evening for the Class of '26 Firefighting Cohort. We were absolutely delighted to be joined by Ed Husic MP and Talia Amituanai (Ward 5 Blacktown Councilor) who found the time to join us, listen to our stories and congratulate our new members individually.

Thank you also to the other dignitaries from NSW Rural Fire Service - Cumberland/Macarthur District and Fire and Rescue NSW Station 83 Riverstone who also attended to show their support.

The night saw the presentation of epaulettes to our 14 Graduates who will join the rest of the brigade officially under the fire fighter rank. Impressively, these new members have already attended hundreds of jobs collectively, been deployed throughout the state and participated extensively in engagement with the community.

With an outlier fire season predicted, these new firefighters will give us the depth we need to run and rotate crews more thoroughly - enabling us to keep our trucks out there longer doing what they are designed to do.

Congratulations Cohort 2. We are absolutely thrilled to have you join.

If you're interested in the next years program - express your interest here.

Thanks to the hundreds of people that came and visited us at Bunnings last weekend. It was an absolute pleasure to host you and talk about bushfire risks coming this season. We hope you got something great out of it and also enjoyed our life changing bbq and cakes! If you didn't catch it, Scott the captain went live and you can still watch the broadcast on our profile. Thank you Bunnings for hosting us and all the organisations that supported the event.

Let's stay safe this fire season.

After devastating fires impacted their community on the NSW Central Coast the local residents Elise, Paul and Chui Yin reflect on their experiences, what they had done to prepare, what they wish they had known, and the lessons they will take into the future.

What would you do if a fire impacted us at Marsden Park, Elara, Melonba, Angus, Windsor Downs or our other local areas?

Preparation starts long before a fire arrives.

Join us at Get Ready Weekend this Saturday at Bunnings Marsden Park to find out how you can prepare for a bush or grass fire. Plus - check out the truck and learn about what we learnt from the 19-20 season.

Hey, I'm Amelia, or Milz as I'm affectionately known in the Brigade.

Today is R U OK? Day. And that means so much more to me than just asking four little words. It takes me to a very special place filled with love and memories.

Eight years ago my beautiful nephew Luke lost his battle with mental health. Eight years without his laugh. Eight years without that big, bubbly personality that could light up a room.

After we lost him, we painted our very first Blue Tree in his memory and started the Blue Tree Project. What started as one blue tree has now grown into communities and people all around the world also painting their own blue trees to spark these conversations about mental health.

Luke's story didn’t end that day. His story continues with every newly painted blue tree and every person who finds the courage to say, “I'm not okay.”

That’s why R U OK? Day hits differently for me.

Because I know that behind the smile and the person who is always checking on everyone else, there could be another battle nobody can see.

So today, we at the Marsden Park Rural Fire Brigade ask R U OK?

Please - Check in. Listen without judgement. Make the phone call. Have the awkward conversation.

Because you never know what someone is carrying behind their smile.

And to my nephew, eight years later, we still miss you. We still talk about you. And hopefully we continue to honour your memory by helping others in conversation starters like this.

One blue tree. One conversation. One life at a time.

Thanks to my Brigade for giving me this platform to spread this message.

Tomorrow: 5th September 2026.

Extreme Fire Danger. All permits are cancelled. TOTAL FIRE BAN. Western Sydney Area.

These are dangerous fire conditions. Check your bushfire plan and ensure that your property is fire ready. If a fire starts, take immediate action. If you and your property are not prepared to the highest level, go to a safer location well before the fire impacts.
