Marking the 25th National Sorry Day commemorating the Bringing Them Home Report, with solidarity, grief and support for the Stolen Generations and all of our mob impacted by historical and ongoing discrimination. NMM will continue to advocate strongly for mob-led solutions to the housing and homelessness crisis, and for a genuine commitment to Closing the Gap from policymakers πŸ–€πŸ’›β€οΈπŸ˜οΈ

It was a great privilege to be welcomed to Larrakia Country last week for the 2026 Aboriginal Housing and Homelands Conference. NMM Managing Director Tina Ugle and Moorditj Mia coordinator Leonie Pickett shared our experiences and unique approach with a national audience.

Thanks to our sister Leeanne Caton and Aboriginal Housing Northern Territory for hosting this vital event for our communities. Great talks, provocative ideas, wonderful opportunities to connect and collaborate πŸ–€πŸ’›β€οΈ

Major changes to the 𝐛𝐨𝐧𝐝 𝐫𝐞π₯𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐞 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬 are now in effect for WA renters and landlords. πŸ’°πŸ”™

For the first time, tenants can apply to have their bond released themselves, giving renters the same opportunity as landlords to start the bond release process when a tenancy ends.

There is also a new dispute resolution process, where the Commissioner for Consumer Protection WA can decide most bond disputes instead of parties needing to go to Court.

If you rent in WA, it’s important to understand how these changes may affect you.

NMM managing director Tina brought our perspective as a and First Nations housing provider to a very lively discussion of the . Thank you for the invitation and all who attended!

Aboriginal people living in Boorloo/Perth and WA remain uniquely vulnerable to homelessness and insecurity. We have the cultural and communal strength to end this situation, but only through increased investment in housing and programs led by our community rather than from the top down.

Thank you to our moorditj client Loma for speaking to The Guardian Australia about her experiences this week. We work with hundreds from our mob each year – parents, Elders and young people - who face similar barriers to accessing services and housing in this ongoing crisis for our community.

First Nations people in WA remain uniquely, overwhelmingly exposed to housing insecurity and homelessness as affordable housing becomes a thing of the past, and community housing fails to keep pace.

As the new Australian Housing and Urban Research Institute - AHURI report on Indigenous housing points out, Aboriginal-led responses to the housing crisis are working but we need government to treat us as full partners on the path toward ending homelessness.
