AJ Burkitt Oval – Update. No Machines on the oval.

β€’ For the first time since 5 January, there is no plant or equipment on the oval
β€’ The sinkhole has been backfilled and the surface is now being prepared for resurfacing
β€’ TBM 2 has passed the walking path. A significant milestone
β€’ Security measures are being relaxed

πŸ‘€ We must be getting close.

There is still no formal confirmation from North East Link (NEL) on reopening timelines, but we’re hopeful to see the park reopen very soon, with the oval to follow shortly after.

I’ll keep you posted.

Watsonia Station Carpark plans.
What do you think?

Wednesday Morning update.

Concrete is out and backfilling of the main sinkhole with soil has begun.

This is deeply unsettling for our local residents.

The arrogance and lack of transparency from the North East Link project on this issue is appalling. Either they haven’t conducted the necessary traffic data analysis, or they have and are choosing not to share it with council and the community. I’m not sure which is more concerning.

Residents are already being asked to endure the direct impacts of this project. Yet the State Government still refuses to commit to a permanent truck ban on the existing residential roads connected to North East Link.

Our community deserves straight answers and real protections, not silence.

Residents living near the North East Link construction have slammed the project for backing out of a promise to reopen a key road, saying it leaves their community vulnerable during bushfires and medical emergencies.

AJ Burkitt, sinkhole Update.

No updated timeline unfortunately. Path might be weeks away and hopefully we remain on track to have the oval ready for footy season rd 1.

πŸŽ₯ AJ Burkitt Oval – On Site Update
Down here today with the latest info.

🚜 Excavation works removing the top 2m of concrete from the sinkhole, preparing for top soil are commencing tonight or tomorrow and will run day and night until next week. I’ve asked why night works are necessary - awaiting further detail.

πŸ› οΈ Repatriation works will continue on the oval through March.

πŸ‰ Still on track for the oval to be ready for footy season in April.

πŸšΆβ€β™‚οΈ Unfortunately we have no clarity on when the Yarra Trail will reopen, this remains frustrating.

🌊 Approximately 300m³ of concrete has now gone into the ground beneath the oval.
🌳 I’m seeking answers on the long-term impact to the water table and surrounding trees with this.

πŸš‡ The second TBM is under the oval, near the sinkhole location and moving slowly. We are chasing updates on an expected timeline here.

🀝 SPARK has confirmed an assistance package including:
πŸ’§ A new water fountain for Parkrun
πŸ’‘ Major lighting upgrades
πŸ“Š New scoreboards

We will continue pushing for transparency and timely information.

More soon.
