One of the best resources we have for the study of history is the National Library's on-line TROVE service and in particular the newspaper archive.
Trove was launched in December 2009, by the National Library of Australia staff, as a way to aggregate collections.
In early 2023, it was announced that the current funding arrangements would cease in July 2023 leading to the closure of Trove, unless further federal funding became available.
It becomes necessary to agitate to assure the current government that Trove is valuable to Australian citizens.

Between 1200hrs 31/8 and 1200hrs 3/9/2020 Lilydale Historical Society and RSL noticed that historical plague attached to the memorial tree in Melba Park had been stolen. The plaque is made of brass and has been attached to the tree since 13 June 1900. It was a gift to the people of Lilydale. If you know anything please call Lilydale on 97392300 or Crime Stoppers on 1300 333 000.

We have some terrible news!
120 years ago the people of Lilydale commemorated the relief of Mafeking in the Boer War by planting an oak tree and placing a plaque on the iron guard around it.
Going up in 1900 it is the oldest war memorial in the district and one of the oldest in Victoria.
For 120 years it has sat there and been admired by generations of residents.
Sadly some scumbags have now stolen it!
This is a disgrace and a severe loss to the history and heritage of the Yarra Ranges!!
Please keep an eye out for it and if you hear anything about who has stolen it - report these low lives to the police straight away!

A centenary of remembrance
During the centenary of World War I, the federal electorate of Casey — named after a World War I veteran, Lord Richard Casey — was one of the most proactive electorates in the country in what they did to commemorate the 100 year anniversaries.

Mark down the weekend of May 10th-12th to commemorate the centenary of the return home to Seville of George Ingram VC, MM (the Yarra Valley's only Victoria Cross recipient).
Included will be the unveiling of a plaque in the Seville Hall and the long awaited unveiling of the extraordinary George Ingram glass panel on the new Seville War Memorial.
Don't miss this opportunity to pay our respects to a local war hero.
