Doreen's Wildflower Book 16/12/2013

In the 1940's a young girl wondered over the paddocks of Altona, collecting the wildflowers the grew there. Without realising it, she was making a botanical record for future generations. She pressed and painted the flowers that she found and put them in a book. Now Doreen's book has become the starting point of a project to conserve the flowers of Altona's Grasslands. We would like to share with you some of the images from Doreen's book and will start with the Tuffed Blue Bell

Colleen, Susie and Neil are excited to invite friends for a walk on Doreen's Grassland, (northern end of Grieve Parade, Altona), this Saturday November 17 at 10 am. A paddock of native grassland is being conserved and planted with flowers indigenous to Altona.
Doreen Eddison identified many beautiful local flowers when she rambled in this place during the 1940s. Doreen created a book with pressed flowers and coloured sketches. Now the Grassland's Friends are using her book as the starting point for fresh planting on the paddock. See you on Saturday morning!
