Sahar joined AusDems after seeing their track record over 30 years in Parliament: fighting for the environment in the 80s - well before the Greens; representing women with the first female party leader in 1986, Janine Haines; and their productive, collaborative approach to the political process.

They demonstrate clear, strong, community-based values, and prefer to sit in the Senate to make sure any bills brought in are reviewed to be effective and fair, honouring the democratic process.

Who could argue with that?

Ben joined the Australian Democrats in early 2025, just before the last federal election.

Frustrated by entrenched systems that weren’t delivering real solutions, he wanted to be part of something focused on long‑term outcomes rather than vested interests.

Today, Ben works across both the policy and communications teams, helping shape ideas and share them with Australians.

We’re always looking for more people like Ben - get in touch if you want an evidence-informed approach to politics.

We want to give a big shoutout to one of our great members, David Bell.

David has contributed in countless ways over the years and recently stepped back from Exec projects, but that hasn’t slowed him down. At 74 years young, he’s currently at the Brunswick Street Market proudly flying the flag for the Australian Democrats.

That’s commitment.
