Once again we were lucky to have some Career fire fighters come out from Geraldton to conduct some training with our crew.

This time was Casualty Transfer Systems.

How we get patients out of road crash vehicles.

The Midwest Gascoyne Regional office is supporting our volunteer brigades by organizing this amazing training opportunity .

Thanks to Kira and Tom for their guidance and professionalism.

Thanks to my crew who jumped in and had a go at all positions . As we never know who can turn out to raid crash incidents . So it is important we are all trained.

( Disclamier : before someone or Ai picks up no helmets . Apparently the new methods of CTS no longer require members to wear helmets. Obviously once the car is stabled and fires are out of etc)

Just be aware as we head into fire season our volunteers are just that volunteers.

So remember when having a fire or driving always be safe.

Fire season doesn’t mean rest for our members . With training and upgrades to qualifications . We also still attend road crashes and structural fires as well as searches when required.

Good work team keep up the good work .

Remember we train on Tuesday nights so if you want to come have a look or ask some questions about volunteering life . Feel free to pop in.

So a few of our members really stepping up of late . Captain Bradley Barbuto and Lt Steve Almen went north to help with Mullewa BA training.

When BA ( breathing apparatus ) is required in structural fires or road crash rescue our northern neighbors are usually on route to assist and vise versa .

So it was our pleasure when requested to assist to go lend a hand.

It also helped us training as ECO ( entry control officer). A very vital role when members go inside . The ECO is the one they rely on to help keep them safe inside a burning building .

Thanks to Mullewa VFRS for allowing us to attend. Mullewa Volunteer Fire & Rescue Service

What a great drill and amazing time had by all.
Scenario house fire with two people unaccounted for inside. An adult and a child.

Morawa VFES team
Members donned their BA ( breathing apparatus) uniforms and commenced a search of premises.
LT Steve Alman and recently BA qualified FF Daniel Gee went in first and commenced a search of premises . They located the adult casualty.

Captain Bradley Barbuto and Area Officer Matt Castaldini went in as a second crew to help bring out the casualty and assist the first crew.

Then the Captain and area officer returned inside the smoke filled building to search for the child . They found said child and returned safely.

Whilst this was all occurring the rest of the brigade were running hoses and learning the role of entry control officer . A special mention to FF Steve Malcolm who recently completed his pump operations course and was thrown in the deep end to act as ECO ( entry control officer) I know I felt safe inside the building with Steve controlling the BA wearers from outside . PFF Crystal Garret FF Indie Williams and FF Colin Malcolm for being on standby outside with hoses and lights to assist the team inside.

Great team effort by all and hopefully we didn’t interrupt to much with our scenario. Good to see some members of the public come and have a look.

Once again thanks to Morawa Hotel for the lovely burgers and parmi to fill our belly’s after such an intense training night.

It would be amiss of me not to mention our amazing trainers Tom Coffey and Kira Tremain career fight fighters from geraldton . Also Area Officer Matt Castaldini and the whole regional office leaders for allowing these trainers to come out and run our training night.

More of this would be awesome and beneficial to our brigade to help us be better prepared to serve our community.

So it may be off season. Never off season for Morawa from alarms to road crashes.

Our team has been busy doing training. From new recruits doing basic training .
To others learning leadership roles.

Training on Tuesdays is in full swing with some of our members refreshing their BA ( breathing apparatus ) competencies.

So today you may have seen a few members walking around town. We are starting our fitness regime. If you want to join us for a walk leave a message .

Our Captain Barbuto and Lt Almen are heading to Perth next month for an internal structural fire course. Which will increase the Morawa VFES capabilities .

A part of that is wearing BA( breathing Apparatus ) so they wore this as they went around town. A few new members Crystal and Indie plus some children enjoyed a walk around town.

With the burn off fire ban ending on the 16th March just be aware that there is still a lot of heat and hot weather around.

Be safe and remember those that come to help are volunteers.

So as the season is near its end extra training and family night was held . With some new members coming on board . We got out the hoses and tested our foam capabilities .

Shout out to our LTs Steve and Greg and our Apparatus Officer Daniel for helping train the new recruits .

If you’re thinking about joining or volunteering come on down Tuesday nights from 5pm and meet with the team.
