Chatting with Bonnie from WIN News Gippsland this morning about the never-ending saga that is the lack of lights at Bank Street in Traralgon.

A few months ago I shared news the Minister for Roads had moved the goalposts yet again and said the lights wont be delivered until next year because of a new ‘complexity’ he refers to as ‘potentially sensitive species’.

I can’t see how placing traffic lights on poles that already exist would impact the ecosystem in a neighbouring reserve... and if local flora/fauna is a concern, why is Latrobe City Council currently undertaking works at Bank Street to resurface the road and pavement?

Labor is more concerned about 'potentially sensitive species' than it is the safety of the 20,000 motorists who pass through this deathtrap intersection every day.

The kicker? These works have been fully funded TWICE - by the Victorian Government in 2017 and then by the Federal Government in the 2021-22 Budget.

The Nationals WILL deliver lights at the Bank Street intersection in Traralgon.

It's been a wet week across the Valley but that shouldn't mean our roads fall to pieces.

After 12 years of Labor our roads network is littered with potholes and getting worse. Regional Victorians are paying the price with damaged cars, expensive repairs, and in some cases, their lives.

Only The Nationals and Liberals have a positive plan to fix our roads and restore the technical expertise needed to make sure we fix them properly.

We'll invest $5 billion in our first term to repair and rebuild Victoria's roads, eliminate one million potholes and establish a proper system of preventative road maintenance.

Chatting to business owners and residents in Glengarry today about mobile connectivity issues that have plagued the town for a long time.

Too often customers aren’t able to make transactions by card because the reception is so poor, which of course limits their choice and the businesses’ viability.

I’ve met with Telstra on several occasions and will do so again in coming weeks, alongside the businesses and residents, to get an update about plans for a dedicated tower in Glengarry.

And of course with the growing popularity of the monthly market, mobile service is more important than ever.

Small towns like this rely on connection and deserve the same quality coverage as other bigger towns. Telstra acknowledges a tower in Glengarry is needed and I’ll keep pushing to make sure one is delivered.

Out and about visiting businesses in Moe today and the number one issue mentioned by every single owner is crime, crime, crime.

They all want to see active patrols to discourage anti-social and criminal behaviour, but they also fully understand that police are limited with 1500 vacancies in the force and the local station operating on reduced hours.

Only The Nationals team has a positive plan to crackdown on crime in the Valley.

We’ll recruit an additional 3000 officers so police can get back on the beat, introduce tough new bail laws to stop repeat offending, and introduce adult time for violent crime.

Massive thank you to the lovely Sue who dropped off a very special and thoughtful gift for my Stormi girl today!

Sue’s granddaughter Khi runs a small business, by Khi, and makes beautiful handmade pieces which I have purchased before.

We got chatting in Churchill recently and I mentioned that Stormi had a special The Nationals for Regional Victoria vest, and Sue thought she deserved something a bit more fashionable and girly!

Safe to stay Stormi was absolutely chuffed with her sunflower bandana and is definitely feeling the love.

Thank you so much Sue and Khi!

Started the morning off a bit differently today by preparing some lunches for a great cause.

I joined my Nats Family Melina Bath MP and Darren Chester MP for an Eat Up Australia session.

Eat Up is a terrific initiative that ensures local school children who may otherwise go hungry have a delicious, nutritious lunch to ensure they have the fuel they need to learn.

Together we prepared about 500 sandwiches and delivered some to local schools.

Big thanks to Traralgon Rotary for hosting us and to Eat Up Australia for the amazing work they do.

The rain has finally eased so it was time to get a few more signs up!

A huge thank you to everyone who is hosting a sign.

If you want to get rid of this Labor government and host a sign, drop me a message on here.

The Nationals team and I have a plan to deliver a fresh start for the Latrobe Valley.

If you are looking for a wet day program across the weekend then there is no better place for you to be than a major Gem show hosted by the Morwell Lapidary Club out at the Churchill Football Netball Clubrooms.

Not only do we have a real local flavour, but there are also stall holders from Melbourne, Sydney as well as Regional Victoria.

Some of the detail on statues, jewellery, plates and polished gems is truly worth a visit. On today and tomorrow from 10-5pm there is plenty for everyone.

Terrific to catch up with Trevor Pickering again and as always he had a story on each piece on display of where and when it was found. Have a great weekend and stay dry!

The Latrobe Valley Racing Club held its season launch at Glenview Park in Traralgon tonight.

The club hold two major race meetings being Derby Day on October 31 and Traralgon Cup Day on November 29 as well as holding many trials.

We are so lucky we have two incredible race venues in the Valley that play vital roles in our communities.

Crown Hotel Traralgon has come on as the major sponsor this year so it’s going to be an exciting time for everyone involved with the club and more importantly all the race goers showing up to enjoy both days.

Big thanks to President Frank Bezzina and his incredible volunteers who work so hard to keep the facility in top shape all year round.

I always enjoy catching up with Mr and Mrs Bezzina who are always ready to share a story or two about life and family.

Get ready for a great spring carnival coming up and please get out and enjoy this fantastic club!

Hazelwood North CFA volunteer Maria Harkins has fought tooth and nail for Labor to take notice of the brigade's dire need for a new shed.

Labor won't do it, so The Nationals will.

To say their current facility is not fit for purpose would be an understatement. The building is a single roller door shed and a meeting room the brigade built themselves.

There is no room for volunteers to park without obstructing access to the tanker and the ultralight appliances, and they are located on a dangerous stretch of road where the speed limit is 100 kilometres per hour.

Because of all these factors, the brigade is unable to hold open days, unable to train appropriately and unable to have a junior brigade.

Most importantly, volunteers do not have access to the facility they deserve and one they need to continue to protect our community and critical assets.

Only The Nationals will deliver a new three-bay station for the Hazelwood North CFA so volunteers can continue to do what they do best - keep their community safe.
