Now is a good time to get your property ready for the bush fire season.

Clear leaves from your gutters, keep lawns short and trim overhanging vegetation. Remove flammable material from around your home.

A few simple jobs now can help reduce your bush fire risk.

Nimbin Brigade will be at the Nimbin Annual Country Show on 19 & 20 September as part of Get Ready Weekend.

Stop by for a chat with our local volunteers and learn more about preparing your property for bush fire season.

This is very disappointing and the same considerations would apply to Nimbin Brigade in similar circumstances.

Today, while attending an incident, members of Drake Rural Fire Brigade and Frazer Cutting Rural Fire Brigade were subjected to threatening behaviour from a member of the public.
We want to make it very clear that this behaviour is not acceptable.
Our members are volunteers who give their time to protect lives, property and our community. No member should ever be expected to remain in a situation where they feel threatened or unsafe.
As a result of today's incident, our crews have now been directed not to enter or travel through the affected area for the remainder of this incident.
This means firefighting operations in that area may be impacted and, unfortunately, the consequences may extend beyond the property involved. Restricted access can affect our ability to reach neighbouring properties or other areas should conditions change or further assistance be required.
Our crews will follow the operational directions put in place for their safety.
Threatening or intimidating the volunteers who have turned up to help is never acceptable. The safety of our members must come first.
Please respect our firefighters and allow them to do their job safely.

On Wednesday this week, Nimbin Brigade and NSW police responded to a car fire in Mebbin Forest. The ute (and a caravan, not located at the scene) was stolen from Lismore, dumped and torched.

We were very lucky that the vehicle was dumped on bare ground. Due to drying forest conditions, such grossly irresponsible (not to mention illegal) actions present a grave risk of starting bushfires that threaten native vegetation, wildlife, property and human life.

Additionally, it is a huge waste of police resources and the efforts of Brigade volunteers. We love protecting our community, but acts like this demonstrate absolute carelessness and lack of respect for people who are just trying to live in peace.

G'day Everyone, the all-volunteer Nimbin Rural Fire Brigade is conducting its monthly General Meeting today at 6pm at the station on Sibley St, opposite the skate park.

Although the meeting is for members to deal with operational and administrative matters, prospective members are always welcome. The fire brigade is a great way to support and protect your community, expand your social circle and gain new skills.

Please consider volunteering; we can always use an extra set of hands...

At the end of July, local RFS brigade members met with the land manager at 39 Crofton Rd, Nimbin. Discussions on safe burning practices and containment were shared and an opportunity for training was floated.

Yesterday RFS undertook an inspection of completed containment lines & SWS resources. Nimbin, Stoney Chute, Jiggi & Blue K**b brigades will assist with this burn ex*****on tomorrow, Sunday 30th from 10am until ~4pm.

There will be smoke in the vicinity, about 2km north of Nimbin village.

With the drier weather, we are seeing an increase in rural burn-offs, not all of which are notified or well prepared.

Although permits are not currently required (until 31 Aug), it is still mandatory to notify the RFS of any planned burns.

To do this is easy.

Just follow the link below and select "Notify of your planned burn". Provide some details about the burn and you will receive an email acknowledgement. Make sure you also notify your neighbours 24 hours prior to your burn.

If you have any questions, please contact the Brigade via Messenger, phone or email address in the Facebook contact information section.

This does not apply to Nimbin Village. Anyone seeking to burn-off in the Village must seek approval from Lismore City Council. RFS cannot authorise this.

It was with heavy hearts that Nimbin RFS members joined family & friends to commemorate the life of the much loved Terry Bressington on Saturday, 25th July.

Terry added to an already rich life by joining Nimbin Volunteer Bushfire Brigade in the mid-1990s. In 30years of active, operational firefighting, training and community service, Terry built trust and camaraderie, both in uniform & civvies. He turned out to more than 200 incidents and events; countless hours helping many during the worst day of their lives… fire, flood, road tragedy and medical emergency. Terry’s on-scene professionalism, his presence at the brigade, his smile and good nature will be sorely missed.

Each year Nimbin RFS volunteers frock-up Santa’s fire truck for the annual Nimbin Community Christmas Lunch; when Santa travels all the way down from his Blue K**b workshop, to spike the blood sugar levels of Nimbin kids & build lasting memories for their families. This year we tied that in with a Brigade station Xmas event.

Thanks to the Nimbin Neighbourhood and Information Centre for their collaboration throughout the year, spearheading (among many other support mechanisms) the Nimbin Disaster Resilience Group and the allocation of two extra water tanks to the Nimbin RFS station redevelopment.
