Some of the ongoing work not seen by the public, the many budget workshops we do that start every January to prepare the next financial years budget. I have to say, the uncertainty of the impact of increased fuel prices and the possibility of a looming recession is seriously exercising our minds.

Happy 110th birthday to Anzac Cottage - the house built in one day to honour a returned soldier, Private John Porter. So lovely to join the Friends of Anzac Cottage, representatives from The Natonal Trust and His Excellency Governor Dawson and Mrs Dawson at the celebrations. 🎂

As part of my commitment to serving our community at the City of Vincent I’ve been completing the WALGA mandatory training required of all new councillors within our first 12 months in office.
These five modules are designed to ensure we fully understand our roles and responsibilities in representing our ratepayers and upholding strong governance standards across local government in Western Australia.
The modules include:
• Module 1 – Understanding Local Government
• Module 2 – Conflicts of Interest
• Module 3 – Serving on Council
• Module 4 – Meeting Procedures
• Module 5 – Understanding Financial Reports and Budgets
Today marks my final session, completing the Meeting Procedures module.
Across the five courses, I’ve had the opportunity to meet some outstanding councillors from across the state. It’s been invaluable hearing how different councils operate, what matters most to their communities, and the distinct challenges faced by rural councils compared with metropolitan ones.
Local government plays a critical role in shaping the places where we live, work and play. Ongoing training and professional development are essential to ensuring we make informed, transparent and responsible decisions on behalf of our community.
Proud to complete this milestone and looking forward to continuing to learn and serve.

LEST WE FORGET
It was an honour to attend the Remembrance Day event at Axford Park today to honour those that have suffered and those that paid the ultimate price in conflicts to defend the freedom and life we live and experience today. A big thanks to the City of Vincent and the Mt. Hawthorn RSL for organising.
In the late afternoon I also had the privilege of attending a moving sunset service at the historic Anzac House on Kalgoorlie St, Mount Hawthorn. A big thank you to Anne Chapple and everyone at Friends of ANZAC Cottage Inc for the magnificent service they organised and the great work they do in educating the community through the legacy of Anzac cottage.
