Understanding the true depth of ANZAC Day is a profound journey when you come to Australia as a migrant. It is not just a day of remembrance; it is the foundation of the peace and freedom we are so deeply privileged to share.

Serving as a Councillor has given me a new perspective on this occasion. It is an honour to be actively involved in how our City of Canning community comes together to reflect, pay our respects and keep the ANZAC spirit alive.

A standout moment from this morning’s service at the Civic Amphitheatre was the address by Rehan Abeywardana, representing Rossmoyne Senior High School. Rehan is a good friend of my son and watching him deliver such a meaningful and wonderful speech was incredibly moving.

Seeing our local youth step up with such maturity to carry this legacy forward means a great deal.

Thank you to the Canning Districts RSL Sub Branch, City of Canning staff, students from Rossmoyne Senior High School, my fellow councillors and everyone who contributed to a memorable morning.

Lest we forget. 🌺

50 SHADES OF GREY ☑️🧠🩶

Grey matters.

Tonight at our City of Canning Agenda Briefing, we wore grey to symbolise the brain’s grey matter and stand in solidarity with our good friend and colleague, Councillor Linda Ross, during a time of deep loss.

As a Council, we came together and made a small donation to Charlies Foundation for Research whose incredible work supports vital medical research across Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital and Osborne Park Hospital, making a real difference to patient care here in Perth.

Their vision is simple but powerful, helping West Australians live healthier, longer lives. It’s about inspiring generosity, driving innovation, and always putting patients first, including support for Brain Tumour Alliance Australia (BTAA).

Most importantly, we showed Linda she’s not alone.

In memory of Mick McConnell RIP

Canning in the Spotlight! 🌟

In case you missed it, our City of Canning was featured on OUR TOWN this past Sunday. It was a fantastic segment that highlighted why we are one of the highest-performing local economies in Western Australia.

As a Councillor, I am so proud of our region's growth and the promise it holds. But more importantly, it's our rich multicultural community that makes Canning such a special place to live, work, and invest.

Take a look at the feature video here and see why our City continues to attract so much opportunity.

Also, keep an eye on the Our Town page for the full episode if you’d like to see the complete feature on our vibrant City!

While out bin tagging, our Waste Education Officers have noticed aerosols, batteries and items containing batteries in both kerbside recycling and general waste bins. This is a serious safety issue and poses significant risks.

Aerosol cans and batteries are a fire and explosion hazard – not just in your bin, but in waste collection trucks and processing facilities too. They also put the safety of waste workers at risk. Please never place aerosol cans, batteries or any battery-containing items in your kerbside bins.

The good news is there are lots of places you can drop off your aerosols and household batteries for safe disposal. Check the City’s Recycling Hubs here: www.canning.wa.gov.au/recyclinghubs

Batteries can also be dropped off at businesses such as Aldi, Bunnings, Coles and Woolworths.

Thank you for helping keep our community and our waste workers safe.

Did you know over 200,000 tonnes of clothing end up in Australian landfills every year? There's a better way!

Instead of throwing away your pre-loved items, book a FREE collection service from Good Sammy – it's as easy as booking a date, then leaving items on your verge.
What they collect: good quality clothes, shoes, handbags, accessories, bed linen, towels, kitchenware and toys.

The environmental impact is real: Every time a mixed fibre t-shirt is responsibly donated and reused, it avoids an estimated 2.6kg of CO2 emissions.

Book your free collection today: https://www.canning.wa.gov.au/request-or-report/waste-and-recycling/on-demand-donation-collection-service
