Some good information from Go Gear Racing Services regarding safety harnesses for Tarmac rallysprints in WA

With the new requirements re: harnesses for Tarmac Events WA's Bunbury rallysprint.
I felt the need to make a post about proper installation & use of harnesses, I have seen way too many times harnesses installed improperly or not in a manner suitable for the occupant.

Some points:
1) Harnesses must NOT be attached to child restraint points.
2) Harnesses must be installed completely independent of the seat & it's mounts & rails.
3) It is absolutely critical that harness angles be correct & adhered to.
4) You cannot use an expired harness, it really speaks volumes for people who sell 2nd hand harnesses & say "they are expired but in good condition, & ok for club or road use"
No they are not, once they are expired, put them in the bin.

5) F.H.R.'s like Simpson Hybrid & HANS devices cannot be used with a 4 point harness.
6) Harness bars:
For road cars. weekend motorsport daily drivers, aftermarket harness bars that bolt in & out of the vehicle to factory points in my opinion are an absolute godsend as they allow for adjustment & instillation of the shoulder straps to the correct height & angles.
We unfortunately do not sell them (yes like everything there are cheap & nasty ones & good ones).

Re: Harness angles
Especially the crotch & shoulder straps.
Shoulder strap angles are to be measured (as in diagram) off the shoulder of the occupant. Seats with harness holes must not interfere with the measurement (i.e shoulders must be between the height of the opening of the holes, not above or below).
Sadly I've seen way too many seats that are improperly fitted for the occupant.
If you have occupants with different heights, please have cushions or a way of adjusting their height position in the seat.

Documents showing these angles can be found both on AASA - Australian Auto-Sport Alliance & Motorsport Australia's websites.
However I do recommend the document published by the FIA which can be found here:
https://api.fia.com/sites/default/files/fia_standard_guidelines_-_safety_harnesses.pdf

If anyone is unsure, we are more than happy to spend some time with you and your vehicle explaining what you may or may not need to do to get harnesses mounted properly.

There are way too many myths & miss information about harnesses use & instillation for me to go over in this post.

Please feel free to pop in & see us if you have any further questions.

Regards
Ivan
