🎄Stallholder & food vendor applications for Christmas Street Party open now🎄

It’s nearly that time of year where McDowall Street comes alive with Christmas cheer at the 2026 Maranoa Christmas Street Party and Council is calling all local businesses and community organisations to be part of the festivities!

Council welcomes market stalls, food trucks and food vendors, community displays and activities to deck the street at this annual, fun-filled event.

Stallholder and food vendor applications are open now.

This event will be extra exciting with it being pool themed in celebration of the Denise Spencer Aquatic Centre opening the following weekend. Think Hawaiian shirts, tropical Christmas, pool toys and plenty of summer fun. Stallholders and food vendors are encouraged to get into the spirit and incorporate the theme into their stall, decorations or outfits.

🎄 Mark your calendars: 2026 Maranoa Christmas Street Party! 🎄

One of the most anticipated events in the region is back again this year, the Maranoa Christmas Street Party, to be held from 5:00pm to 8:30pm on Thursday, 3 December.

The community will partake in the festivities along McDowall Street as it is decked out with amusement rides, live entertainment, market stalls and food vendors.

In addition to this, the event will also see Christmas Carols aplenty, as well as the one and only Santa!

“I encourage residents to come along to the Maranoa Christmas Street Party – it is a wonderful, festive celebration that has something for everyone to enjoy,” Mayor Wendy Taylor said.

This year’s event will be met with a splash with it being pool themed in celebration of the pool Denise Spencer Aquatic Centre opening! Think Hawaiian shirts, tropical Christmas, pool toys and plenty of summer fun. Maranoa’s voice heard in Canberra 🇦🇺

For the first time, Maranoa Regional Council joined more than 40 community representatives from across Australia for the Australian Energy Producers’ Gas Communities Day at Parliament House in Canberra last week.

Deputy Mayor Councillor Cameron O'Neil and Deputy CEO Cameron Hoffmann represented the Maranoa, meeting with Federal MPs and Senators from across the political spectrum to highlight the importance of the oil and gas industry to our region.

The Maranoa has a long history with the oil and gas industry and, over the past 20 years, has become a major centre for coal seam gas production.

Deputy Mayor Cr Cameron O’Neil said the industry plays an important role in the local economy, supporting jobs, businesses, contractors and suppliers.

“Decisions made in Canberra can have a real impact on communities like ours, particularly when it comes to local jobs, businesses and future investment,” Cr O’Neil said.

“That’s why it’s important we have a seat at the table and make sure the views and experiences of our communities are heard.”

“Council continues to deliver on this term’s commitment to ensuring the Maranoa is well represented in discussions across all levels of government, particularly when decisions are being made that impact the future of our region.”

Council thanks Senex Energy and Australian Energy Producers for the invitation to ensure the Maranoa’s voice is heard in important national discussions.

Maranoa Regional Council Ordinary Meeting Snapshot: 15 October 2026

We’re sharing a quick update from this week’s Ordinary Meeting, with several important outcomes endorsed by Council.

Here are just a few key highlights:

🤝 Employee Volunteering Policy
Council has adopted an Employee Volunteering Policy to help strengthen our local communities by supporting staff to give back through volunteering. As one of the largest employers in the region, we have an opportunity to make a real difference by supporting the sporting clubs, charities and community organisations that rely on volunteers. This policy gives eligible employees the opportunity to volunteer during the working week, while ensuring Council’s operational needs continue to be met. It’s about putting our community-minded values into action and helping build a stronger, more connected Maranoa.

🏘️ Housing Activation Reserve - Statement of Intention
Council gave in-principle support to the development of a Housing Activation Reserve. This reserve introduces a real practical step in planning ahead for Maranoa’s future.
What this means is we are looking at a way to reinvest proceeds from suitable property sales or development back into housing opportunities across the Maranoa which enables infrastructure and partnerships. It is a long-term approach that can help support housing supply, improve liveability, and make our region more attractive for workers, families and future investment.

🖼️ Application through Regional Arts Development Fund (RADF) Program 2026/2027
Council is pleased to support three fantastic local projects through the Regional Arts Development Fund. Funding will go to Maranoa Artists for a fabric painting workshop, Creative Injune for landscape art workshops that will also provide artwork for Injune Hospital, and Meeleebee Create and Retreat through Zonta Roma for a three-day creative workshop experience where participants can learn upholstery and home décor skills. These projects are all about building creative skills, bringing people together, and celebrating the artistic flair we have right here across the Maranoa.

🏇 Refurbishment of Members Bar Bassett Park - Roma Turf Club
Council has approved the Roma Turf Club’s proposed refurbishment of the Members Bar at Bassett Park. This upgrade is being undertaken as a Club-funded investment in the facility, with Council assisting to ensure the proposed works are appropriately reviewed, that the final scope and design requirements are agreed, and that all necessary building, safety and asset approvals are in place before works begin. This is a positive investment in a Council-owned facility that will improve the space for members, visitors and the broader community.

🏊 Establishment of Fees for Denise Spencer Aquatic Centre
With only 7 weeks to go until the Denise Spencer Aquatic Centre opens, there is a real sense of excitement building in the community.
Council has now adopted the entry fees for the new facility, with options to suit different households and budgets. We are providing greater choice and flexibility for our residents recognising that not everyone will use the facility in the same way by introducing different levels of fees including casual visits, concession pricing, family passes and annual memberships. Adult entry will be $5, child and concession entry $3, and a family casual pass of $14.50. We know affordability matters, so the pricing has been set to balance access for the community with the long-term sustainability of the centre in mind. Full fees and charges will be available on Council’s website. The countdown is on we can't wait to open this amazing community facility.
