A greener future is coming to Green Gully Reserve πΏπ§
A new $1.6 million stormwater harvesting and irrigation upgrade project is about to take off to:
- reduce reliance on drinking water
- improve water recycling, and reduce stormwater pollution flowing into Taylors Creek and the Maribyrnong River
- keep this much-loved community space green and thriving.
Used by local sporting clubs, families, walkers and residents from across Brimbank, Green Gully Reserve will benefit from more sustainable irrigation infrastructure that supports both the environment and our growing community.
Thank you to the Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action and Greater Western Water for partnering with us to fund this important work that will help create a healthier, greener and more sustainable Brimbank.
Special thanks to the Minister for Water for Hon. Harriet Shing MP and our Local Member the Hon. Natalie Suleyman MP who joined us at Green Gully Reserve along with representatives from DEECA and Greater Western Water to share the good news.

We are excited to share two brilliant new funding announcements for Brimbank:
π° π₯¦ Horseshoe Bend Community Garden Expansion π₯¦ π°
Horseshoe Bend Reserve is home to a thriving and welcoming community garden that's open to Brimbank residents and visitors. Yesterday, Minister for Environment, the Hon Enver Erdogan MP, and local Member for Niddrie, the Hon Ben Carroll MP, announced that $93,000 will be invested by the State Government for the expansion of the garden. This garden wouldn't exist without the hard work of the amazing local volunteers from the Horseshoe Bend Community Group. We can't wait to watch it grow.
π°π Opening of the 2026-27 Local Sports Infrastructure Fund ππ°
Minister for Community Sport, the Hon Ros Spence MP, and local Member for Sydenham, the Hon Natalie Hutchins MP, visited Lionheart Reserve in Taylors Lakes yesterday to announce the opening of the 2026-2027 Local Sports Infrastructure Fund (LSIF). Meeting the growing demand for more inclusive sports facilities in Brimbank is one of our advocacy priorities and the expansion of this program will help us get this over the line.

Each year, 26 May marks National Sorry Day, which acknowledges the Stolen Generations.
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children were forcibly removed from their families up until the 1980s, and the impacts of this are still felt by many in our communities today.
Today is an opportunity for us to reflect, commemorate, heal, and remember the Stolen Generations and their families. For those who were taken, and for the families who had children taken, this is the time to grieve, reflect and be heard.
In solemn recognition of National Sorry Day, we have lowered our flags to half-mast.
We're committed to reconciliation by building relationships, respect and trust between the wider Brimbank community and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

At last nightβs Council Meeting, Mayor Virginia Tachos moved a Notice of Motion (NOM) in response to community feedback and rising cost-of-living pressures linked to the proposed 4-bin waste reforms - particularly examining the cost and value to community of the roll out of the state-mandated glass (purple) bin.
A NOM is a formal way for a Councillor to bring an issue to a Council meeting for discussion and decision, following set governance procedures.
The NOM, which was endorsed by Council, calls for a detailed report on all options for the new glass bin (including costs, risks, compliance requirements, and whether the service could be delayed, changed or not implemented), while also seeking clearer State Government standards, increased State funding to support implementation and expansion of the Container Deposit Scheme.
Council officers will report back by July 2026.
So what does this mean for you and your bins? At this stage, no Council decisions have changed, and weβll keep the community informed as soon as any updates are available.
