We’re so proud to share that The Water Well Project has received the Refugee Leadership Award at the 2026 Victorian Multicultural Awards for Excellence! 🏆

We’re incredibly grateful for this recognition and especially thankful to our wonderful community partners and leaders across the refugee sector who supported our nomination.

This award is a meaningful acknowledgement of the impact of our work and the difference that better health literacy can make in the lives of people from refugee backgrounds.

We’re so proud of our volunteer healthcare professionals and the wider team who make this work possible, and grateful to the communities who continue to welcome us and place their trust in us.

It was a beautiful evening celebrating alongside so many wonderful individuals and organisations doing amazing work across Victoria.

Meet Aaron 👋

Aaron is a nurse and one of our wonderful volunteers at The Water Well Project.
Through facilitating sessions, Aaron says he has learnt just how much people value practical health information they can use in everyday life, and how important it is to slow down, keep things clear and check that everyone understands.

His favourite part of volunteering is meeting people from different backgrounds and cultures, and learning something new each time.

Aaron also regularly supports our New Volunteer Training sessions, helping with set-up, answering questions and sharing his experience with new volunteers.

We’re so grateful for everything you bring to The Water Well Project, Aaron. Thank you! 💙

Women’s Health Week has been a busy one for us. 💜

This week we ran 9 health education sessions and joined 3 women’s health expos, festivals and forums across Victoria, NSW and Tasmania.

Across all of them, we spent time talking with women from different cultures about their health asking questions, sharing experiences, and thinking about the small, practical things we can do to look after ourselves. Eating well, moving more, getting enough rest, looking after our mental health and knowing when and how to seek help.

That’s what we love about Women’s Health Week, created by Jean Hailes for Women's Health for Women’s Health. It creates space for honest conversations about health and reminds us that looking after ourselves doesn’t have to mean doing everything perfectly.

Sometimes it starts with one conversation, one question, or one small change. 💜

A big thank you to Advantage Pharmacy Official for donating our wonderful raffle prize!

It’s Multicultural Health Week 2026! 💙

This year, NSW Health is highlighting the important connection between physical activity, mental health and wellbeing.

For many people from migrant, refugee and multicultural communities, physical and mental wellbeing can be pushed down the list when there are competing priorities, unfamiliar systems, language barriers or the everyday pressures of settling into life in Australia.

That’s why these conversations can be just as important as the ones we have about chronic health conditions!

In our sessions, we use movement, games and practical activities to get people involved, have a laugh, build connection and start conversations about looking after both body and mind.

Here are a few moments from our sessions doing exactly that. 💪

100 sessions! 🎉💛
A huge congratulations to our Victorian Health Educator, Mahisha, who has now facilitated an incredible 100 health education sessions with The Water Well Project.

A pharmacist by qualification, Mahisha has spent the past 20 months bringing clear, practical and culturally responsive health information into community settings across Victoria.

The feedback from community groups says so much about the way she facilitates. Mahisha is consistently described as engaging, approachable and easy to understand, with a wonderful ability to tailor information to the needs of each group and create a relaxed, supportive space where people feel comfortable asking questions.

And her contribution goes far beyond the sessions themselves. Mahisha leads our New Volunteer Training, supports and mentors our volunteer healthcare professionals, and plays a key role in reviewing and developing the topic guides and resources that support our work.

100 sessions represents an enormous contribution to the communities we work alongside, and we are so grateful to have Mahisha as part of our team. Congratulations Mahisha, and thank you for everything you bring to The Water Well Project! 💛

🩺❤️ We’re looking for AHPRA-registered healthcare professionals and final year students in AHPRA-registered professions to join our volunteer team.

At The Water Well Project, our volunteers deliver free, small-group health education sessions with communities from migrant, refugee and asylum seeker backgrounds.

The sessions are held in familiar community spaces and cover practical health topics such as Women’s Health, Healthy Eating, Diabetes, Heart Health, Mental Health, Child Health and Development and Navigating the Australian Healthcare System.

As a volunteer, you’ll help participants gain new health information, feel more confident asking questions and know where to go for support. Our sessions are designed to help people feel more able to manage their own health, make informed choices and take practical steps around prevention, care and wellbeing.

Our New Volunteer Training introduces our model, including culturally responsive practice, working with interpreters and facilitating health education in community settings.

This EOFY, please help us ensure more women can access life-saving cervical screening.

Australia is on track to eliminate cervical cancer, but only if every community is part of that progress.

The Water Well Project delivers trusted health education in community settings, led by healthcare professionals and supported by interpreters. Women can ask questions safely, understand their options and feel confident taking the next step.

After our sessions, intention to screen increased from 36.6% to 87.9%, and knowledge of where to access screening rose from 24% to over 80%.

We know this works. With your support, we can reach more women and ensure no one is left behind.

Please donate before 30 June at thewaterwellproject.org/donate
