We know that working smoke alarms save lives, yet almost half of the incidents we attend don't have them 😳🚨

We're urging you to install smoke alarms now, and to check on friends, relatives and neighbours, to ensure their smoke alarms are in working order.

If you're unable to install or check smoke alarms, our crews will do a Home Safety Visit πŸš’ free of charge, where they will provide tailored advice and install free smoke alarms if required.

For more information visit: www.fire.nsw.gov.au/visits πŸ‘‹

It might look like a pile of dirt and grass to you, but to a firefighter, this picture represents a vital connection to fighting fires - a hydrant!

When we arrive at a fire, we locate and connect to hydrants to ensure we have a constant water supply. Hydrants are usually marked by yellow paint on the kerb and/or blue road markers.

Please keep the hydrants near where you live accessible. We will too, where we can through Hydrant Checks. Before they unearthed it, this hydrant that was completely invisible to our crew at Fire and Rescue NSW Station 240 Brunswick Heads!

Unfortunately, grass often grows over hydrants and when attending a fire, firefighters spend precious seconds unearthing them. A house can be fully alight within minutes, so this can be a very devastating delay.

If your hydrant is hiding, uncover it today!

With so many people at home at the moment we need to be extra careful.

It’s been a cold winter so remember this if you have a fireplace

With more of us at home, the desire, for a cosy fire, is higher (see what I did there?). Keep the fire contained to your fireplace this winter. Just like wearing a mask protects you and others from COVID, placing a fire screen in front of your fireplace prevents embers and sparks from setting nearby items alight.

If a fire does occur, get out, stay out and call Triple Zero (000).
Stay out of harm this winter. Visit https://fire.nsw.gov.au/winter for more tips on keeping your home safe from fire.
