⚠️ IMPORTANT NOTICE – OFF-ROAD VEHICLES & SHOOTING AT MELLENBYE STATION STAY
We’ve had quite a few enquiries recently about unlicensed motorbikes, quad bikes, buggies, side-by-sides, fi****ms and shooting while staying at Mellenbye.
We want to make our property rules very clear so there is no confusion:
❌ No riding of unlicensed motorbikes, quad bikes, buggies or side-by-sides
❌ No recreational off-road driving around the station
❌ No fi****ms or shooting anywhere on the property
These rules are in place for the safety of our guests, staff, livestock, horses and the station itself.
🚜 Working station operations – Mellenbye is a working cattle station. We have heavy machinery, station vehicles, fencing work and other operations happening throughout the property. Recreational vehicles can create a serious risk of accidents or collisions, particularly when travelling at speed.
🐄 Free-roaming livestock – We have cattle throughout the station. Fast-moving bikes and buggies can frighten livestock, causing them to panic, run through fences or behave unpredictably.
🐴 Horses and young foals – We also have horses and young foals on the property, which can be easily startled by the sudden noise and movement of motorbikes, buggies and other recreational vehicles. A frightened horse or foal can react very quickly and create a serious risk to both people and animals.
🌿 Protecting our environment – Unrestricted off-road riding can cause significant damage to fragile station tracks, soil and native vegetation. Our country is very sensitive, and damage caused by repeated vehicle use can take a long time to recover.
⚠️ Safety, insurance & liability – Allowing guests to use recreational vehicles or fi****ms creates additional safety, insurance and liability risks that we are not prepared to take on.
We understand that many people enjoy travelling with their bikes, buggies or other recreational equipment, and there are properties and stations where these activities may be permitted. However, every property has its own rules and conditions.
Please always contact the property directly before bringing off-road vehicles or fi****ms with you and check their terms and conditions. Never assume they are permitted simply because another property allows them.
At Mellenbye, these rules are not about stopping people from enjoying themselves — they are about making sure we can safely operate a working cattle station and accommodation business with people, animals and station operations all sharing the same property.
We appreciate everyone respecting these rules and helping us keep Mellenbye Station Stay safe for everyone. ❤️
