In 2021, nature once again fell down the political agenda. Faced with continued pandemic-related complications, a crucial meeting of the Convention on Biological Diversity was delayed repeatedly. Fêted as a potential ‘Paris moment’ for the world’s wildlife, and originally planned for 2020, the meeting is now set to take place in spring 2022.
The biodiversity crisis is immense in scale and complexity. A seminal 2019 report warned that the loss of healthy ecosystems and the wild fauna and flora within them is putting all human societies at risk. Yet unlike the phase out of fossil fuels use needed to fight climate change, there is no obvious path to turning the crisis around. A successful response will mean myriad interventions worldwide, targeted to specific local contexts and needs.

A tribute to the legend of Chunati Mr. Lutfur Rahman , on his demise by Mr. Jainul Abedin (Bacchu bhai), Pride of Chunati, the Personal attache to the Hon'ble Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Our Thanks and gratitude for these perfectly explained valuable words that will help the new generation to learn about Mr. Lutfur Rahman, the initiator and the founder Warden of only Wildlife Sanctuary of Bangladesh:
As I heard that our respected Lutu Chacha left us for good, the first thing that struck my thought was Chunati Wild Life Sanctuary. The sanctuary lost its patriarch, a true guardian and a custodian who cared so much for the safety and protection of its biodiversity and wild habitats. Their beloved warden is no more.
Few years back, I needed some timber for wood works of my house. My men cut a big tree from my plantation and sent the logs to me. It was a mamoth 'Chapalish' tree having a circumference of not less than 7 feet at its lower part of the trunk. The pieces were two truck loads and fulfilled most of my requirement. The next day I recieved a call from Lutu Chacha who expressed his concern that I destroyed a mother tree, no matter whether it was from my own land. I had no idea what a mother tree was. He explained it was a very mature tree and its seeds were essential to propagate the plant. Cutting a mother tree way as good as cutting a thousand tree. Never before did I feel so guilty and ashamed. Lutu Chacha taught me a great lesson.
A person of strong resolution and boundless energy, Chacha was a strong proponent of left leaning proletarian ideologies, always espousing the interest of the downtrodden class. He cared for the oppressed community who turned to him for their needs and he rightly stood for their cause and protected them. Today, they lost their caring Patron.
In Chunati we had a number of poachers, locally known as 'Pallan', who regularly hunted in and around the nearby forest. Sambers, fowls, other wild animals, nothing could escape their brutal hunting spree. Illegal tree felling was also a thriving business in the area. It was only after the appointment of Lutu Chacha as the Warden that these innocent wild lives and precious forests were saved. Lutu Chacha, like a godsend angel, vigilantly patrolled the nooks and corners of the forest, chased away the Pallans and the illegal loggers with his gun and became the saviour of the flora and fauna of the sanctuary. He loved these wild animals and trees as much as he loved his own family.
Today, not only Swapan Bhai, Kanon, Nondon and many others became orphans, all the habitats of Chunati Wild Life Sanctuary, the indigent class of the society and all Chunatians also lost their guardian. Chunati lost a great son, a legend, a hero and a galaxy. We will miss him. He needed a good rest and May he rest in peace. Ameen
