They say Islam oppresses women. Yet, Islam gives her rights, protection, and honor:
A woman may defend herself and even kill her ra**st if necessary.
She may choose abortion in cases of r**e.
She is exempt from fasting during pregnancy or menstruation and does not pray during her period.
Her wealth belongs to her, and she can also use her husband’s wealth if needed.
Education is a right for every human being, including women.
The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ emphasized three times, "Take care of women."
Forced marriage is forbidden. She has the right to choose her own spouse.
A mother’s dua is always accepted and her status is honored above all.
A married woman is Rabbatul Bait, the queen of her home.
From birth to motherhood, a woman in Islam is sacred.
As a daughter, she brings her father closer to Jannah.
As a wife, she becomes a source of peace and completes half of her husband’s deen.
As a mother, Jannah lies beneath her feet.
In Islam, women are not oppressed. They are honored. They are not a burden. They are a blessing. They are not silenced. They are sacred.

Nafs — The Greatest Battle Within
What is Nafs?
Nafs (نَفْس) is an Arabic word meaning self, ego, or soul. It refers to the inner human psyche, encompassing desires, impulses, and consciousness. The nafs acts as a driving force for our actions, often inclining toward base desires and temptation, making its purification (tazkiyah) essential for spiritual growth and inner peace.
In Islamic terminology, the nafs is the inner force in every human that leans toward good or evil. Spiritual development depends on controlling and purifying it.
The Three Levels of Nafs
1. Nafs al-Ammarah (نَفْسٍ أَمَّارَةٍ)
The commanding nafs: Pushes a person toward sin, greed, jealousy, and desire
(Surah Yusuf: 53)
2. Nafs al-Lawwamah (نَفْسٍ لَّوَّامَةٍ)
The self-reproaching nafs: Awakens remorse after wrongdoing and encourages reflection
(Surah Al-Qiyamah: 2)
3. Nafs al-Mutma’innah (نَفْسٍ مُّطْمَئِنَّةٍ)
The peaceful nafs: Content and tranquil in remembering and obeying Allah
(Surah Al-Fajr: 27–28)
Who is the Real Enemy?
We often blame Shaytan for our mistakes.
But Allah says:
“Indeed, the plotting of Shaytan is weak.” (Surah An-Nisa: 76)
So, who is the true enemy?
It is our own nafs.
When Iblis refused to prostrate to Adam (peace be upon him), there was no Shaytan yet—
it was his own arrogance and nafs that misled him.
Warnings from the Quran
“Indeed, the nafs commands evil.” (Surah Yusuf: 53)
“I am fully aware of what the nafs whispers to it.” (Surah Al-Qaf: 16)
“Those who restrain their nafs, paradise is theirs.” (Surah An-Nazi’at: 40–41)
Practical Tips for Controlling Nafs
1. Muhasabah (Self-Reflection): Daily honest review of your actions to recognize mistakes and improve.
2. Tazkiyah (Purification): Actively purify the heart through dhikr (remembrance of Allah), sincere prayer, and good deeds.
3. Consistency: Recite these duas regularly, especially in the morning and evening, to strengthen willpower.
The Most Dangerous Reality
In the past, people worshiped idols like Lat, Uzza, and Manat.
Those idols are gone, but one ‘invisible idol’ still exists: the human nafs or desires
“Have you seen the one who has taken his own nafs as his god?” (Surah Al-Jathiyah: 23)
Why Do We Commit Sin?
We pray, we remember Allah, yet we still fall into sin. Shaytan only whispers, but the nafs drags a person toward evil.
The Condition of the Heart
When we become heedless:
“Rather, their own deeds have rusted over their hearts.” (Surah Al-Mutaffifin: 14)
This rust covers the heart with despair and emptiness.
Powerful Duas for Controlling the Nafs
1. Purification of the Soul (Sahih Muslim)
Transliteration:
Allahumma aati nafsi taqwaaha, wa zakkihaa Anta khairu man zakkaha, Anta waliyyuha wa maulaha
Meaning:
O Allah! Grant my nafs its righteousness (taqwa) and purify it, for You are the Best to purify it. You are its Protector and Guardian.
2. Protection from Evil of the Self (At-Tirmidhi)
Arabic:
اللَّهُمَّ أَلْهِمَنِي رُشْدِي وَأَعِذْنِي مِنْ شَرِّ نَفْسِي
Transliteration:
Allahumma al-himni rushdi, wa a‘izni min sharri nafsi
Meaning:
O Allah! Inspire me with guidance and save me from the evil of my nafs.
A Gentle Reminder
Your greatest battle is not with Shaytan, it is with your own nafs.
Those who learn to control their nafs through self-reflection, purification, and sincere dua are the truly successful.
