𝑨 𝒔𝒂𝒄𝒓𝒊𝒇𝒊𝒄𝒆 𝒎𝒂𝒅𝒆 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝑨𝒍𝒍𝒂𝒉 𝒏𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒓 𝒈𝒐𝒆𝒔 𝒖𝒏𝒔𝒆𝒆𝒏

𝐄𝐢𝐝-𝐮𝐥-𝐀𝐝𝐡𝐚 serves as an excellent reminder of our strong faith, absolute obedience, and unwavering submission to Allah (SWT) through the story of the sacrifice of Prophet Ibrahim (A.S.) when he was prepared to sacrifice his son Ismail (A.S.) for Allah's sake. This was both a test of sacrifice as well as of Ibrahim's trust, patience, and commitment to Allah; and he demonstrated to all of us what it means to submit to Allah's command. Through this incident, we realize that Qurbani is not just about the animal that is being sacrificed, but about the level of sincerity and taqwa that we are able to reflect towards Allah (SWT) each and every time. Hence, Allah (SWT) says:
“𝐍𝐞𝐢𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐢𝐫 𝐦𝐞𝐚𝐭 𝐧𝐨𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐢𝐫 𝐛𝐥𝐨𝐨𝐝 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐬 𝐀𝐥𝐥𝐚𝐡, 𝐛𝐮𝐭 𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐬 𝐇𝐢𝐦 𝐢𝐬 𝐩𝐢𝐞𝐭𝐲 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐲𝐨𝐮.” — Surah Al-Hajj (22:37)

May this holy day be a reminder of what Qurbani really means to us all in terms of giving back; sharing love for one another through acts of charity; caring about others with an open heart; making sacrifices or being generous without expecting anything in return. May Allah (SWT) increase your faith as well as increase your appreciation for the blessings you receive from Him. The recurrence of r**e and sexual violence has become so alarmingly frequent in our country that each new incident barely shocks society anymore. Perhaps that growing normalization is one of the most terrifying realities of all. Every time a horrifying r**e or abuse incident comes to light, 𝐬𝐨𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐭𝐲 𝐬𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐡𝐨𝐰 𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐠𝐞𝐭 𝐰𝐡𝐨 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐥 𝐜𝐫𝐢𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐢𝐬. Instead of standing beside the victim, people become busy questioning her clothes, judging her character, her lifestyle, her presence at a certain place, or even her silence. The criminal walks freely while the victim is forced to stand trial before society.

We have become so used to these horrifying headlines that outrage now lasts only a few days before everything returns to “normal” again. But how can anything ever be normal when someone’s daughter, sister, friend, or child loses her dignity forever? The terrifying truth is this can happen to anyone, at any time. No family is untouched by fear anymore. And if we continue to stay silent, ignore these crimes, or reduce them to temporary discussions on social media, then we are becoming part of the problem ourselves.

What makes this reality even more painful is that our country already has laws and legal frameworks against r**e, abuse, and violence; yet these crimes continue to occur repeatedly. Laws lose their meaning when investigations are delayed, evidence is mishandled, influence protects criminals, and justice takes years to arrive. 𝐀 𝐝𝐞𝐥𝐚𝐲𝐞𝐝 𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐝𝐢𝐜𝐭 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐨𝐧𝐥𝐲 𝐝𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐨𝐲𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐯𝐢𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐦 𝐟𝐮𝐫𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐛𝐮𝐭 𝐚𝐥𝐬𝐨 𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐬 𝐟𝐮𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐩𝐞𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐬 to believe they can escape accountability. Hence, strict and prompt implementation of the law is no longer an option; it is a necessity. Every case must be investigated transparently and without delay, survivors must receive proper protection and support, and perpetrators must face swift punishment. Every institution responsible for justice must be held accountable for negligence and delay. Only then can fear begin to shift from the victims to the criminals. Only then can society move toward true justice instead of temporary outrage.

Motherhood has no salary. No promotion. No performance review. No sick days. No resignation letter. Just a lifetime of choosing her children over and over again without ever being asked twice.

So this Mother’s Day, let us go beyond the bouquets and breakfast in bed. Let us sit beside her. Let us truly see her; not just as our mother, but as a woman who had her own fears, her own dreams, and her own battles she fought without an audience. Hold her hand a little longer. Say the words you have been meaning to say. Let her know that her love did not fall on ungrateful hearts- that it took root, it grew, and it lives in everything you do.

Because the greatest gift you can give her today is not something bought from a store - it is the moment she realizes that everything she poured into you was worth it.

The BRACU Response Team successfully organized the second chapter of its signature initiative, Project Shonirvor 2.0, on Wednesday, May 6, 2026. This year’s initiative reaffirmed BURT’s shift from traditional relief to long-term sustainability by providing sewing machines to three deserving women.

The handover ceremony, held at the Alumni Lounge in collaboration with OCSAR, was attended by the Registrar of BRAC University, Dr. David Dowland, alongside club advisor Mohd. Raeed Jamiruddin, OCA officials and alumni members. By equipping these families with the tools for home based tailoring businesses, BURT continues to champion SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth.

The BRAC University Response Team (BURT) successfully launched Project Shonirvor 2.0, a flagship initiative dedicated to fostering self-reliance and long-term social development. Held at the BRAC University Alumni Lounge, the event focused on tackling unemployment by providing sustainable livelihood support to underprivileged communities.

With the generous backing of university alumni and authorities, sewing machines were handed over to three families, equipping them to generate income through tailoring and small-scale business. The ceremony was graced by Dr. David Dowland (Registrar) and Dr. Mohd. Raeed Jamiruddin (Club Advisor), alongside representatives from OCA and OCSAR.

BURT President Shahriar Kabir Ayon emphasized that true impact stems from creating opportunities for people to "stand on their own feet." While BURT is widely recognized for its vital emergency and blood response services, Project Shonirvor 2.0 highlights its commitment to sustainable empowerment, ensuring these families can build a future of dignity and security.

Today at the Alumni Lounge, 𝑩𝑹𝑨𝑪 𝑼𝒏𝒊𝒗𝒆𝒓𝒔𝒊𝒕𝒚 𝑹𝒆𝒔𝒑𝒐𝒏𝒔𝒆 𝑻𝒆𝒂𝒎 (𝑩𝑼𝑹𝑻) proudly celebrated 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐣𝐞𝐜𝐭 𝐒𝐡𝐨𝐧𝐢𝐫𝐯𝐨𝐫 2.0. An initiative dedicated to creating opportunities and encouraging self-reliance. With the generous support of our respected alumni and the BRAC University authority, sewing machines were handed over to 𝟑 underprivileged families as a step toward sustainable empowerment.

Distinguished guests including our registrar 𝐃𝐫. 𝐃𝐚𝐯𝐢𝐝 𝐃𝐨𝐰𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐝 sir, our advisor 𝐃𝐫. 𝐌𝐨𝐡𝐝. 𝐑𝐚𝐞𝐞𝐝 𝐉𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐫𝐮𝐝𝐝𝐢𝐧 𝐬𝐢𝐫, 𝐎𝐂𝐀, 𝐎𝐂𝐒𝐀𝐑 𝐨𝐟𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥𝐬 and our Alumni graced the occasion with their presence and inspiring speeches. They, along with our panel members officially handed over the machines to the families.

These sewing machines will help the families earn a livelihood through tailoring and small businesses, supporting their daily needs with dignity. They also symbolize a step toward independence, confidence, and long-term self-sufficiency.

𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐣𝐞𝐜𝐭 𝐒𝐡𝐨𝐧𝐢𝐫𝐯𝐨𝐫 𝟐.𝟎 is not just an initiative; it is a promise to stand beside communities, to inspire self-sufficiency and to turn hope into action. And perhaps the most beautiful part of the day was the quiet smiles of the recipients. Smiles that carried heartfelt gratitude and the courage to begin a new chapter in their lives. BRACU Response Team will find its true fulfilment in witnessing the growth and transformation of their lives through this small yet deeply impactful initiative.

According to Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS), 2.66 million individuals currently navigating the tides of unemployment in Bangladesh and nearly 19% of our youth standing at a crossroads without education or training. Here, the 𝐁𝐑𝐀𝐂 𝐔𝐧𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐩𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐞 𝐓𝐞𝐚𝐦 (𝐁𝐔𝐑𝐓) refuses to remain a silent spectator. We believe that true empowerment is not found in a handout but in a handheld tool.

In April 2025, BURT launched its inaugural signature initiative, 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐣𝐞𝐜𝐭 𝐒𝐡𝐨𝐧𝐢𝐫𝐯𝐨𝐫 𝟐.𝟎. Building on the incredible momentum of this journey, we are proud to bring back this initiative for its second chapter with even more energy and commitment to turn potential into progress. It symbolizes self-reliance, which is more than just a name. A promise to turn potential into prosperity. With the unwavering support of our distinguished alumni, we prioritize sustainable entrepreneurship over temporary relief.

Through this project, BURT transforms lives by providing tools for craftmanship.
Our vision is to create opportunity by providing people the means to create their own work. So join us as we hand over the keys to financial independence. A small ceremony will mark the beginning of this lifelong journey for our beneficiaries.
