The name Rose Garden derived from the collection of rare and unique species of roses that was gardened and cultivated in her lavish landscapes during the golden era of the villa, a palace of timeless elegance and unprecendented luxury that was erected back in early 1930s by Late Hrishikesh Das, a wealthy Hindu Zaminder of the time. Das, despite his very ordinary background his dream was to live in
style and fame and wanted to mingle in the high society and among the elite class of the city. Das decided to purchase a 7 acre (22 bighas) of land and to build his Pleasure villa that could compete in terms of fame and grandeur with The Balda Garden, one of the most famous and influential landmark of the time in the city. In terms of finalizing the landscape and planning the architecture of the estate, Das was so much involved and focused that to meet his expectations and to show off his affluence and taste the main plan of the estate had to be revised at least three times before it was made final. Greek columns, various styled garden statues and ornamental balcony, decorative Belgian stain glass windows and tall Belgian crystal chandeliers, the villa soon became the site for some of the nation’s most prestigious events both officially and unofficially over the decades. When the construction was finally over, the fabulous abode was ready to live up to the owner’s lifestyle. Das soon started to host lavish parties to show his creation among the elites of the society. Unfortunately Das could not enjoy his new home for too long. His extravagant life style had been his down fall as incomes were scarce while taxes were piling up. Eventually he exhausted his financial empire and became a pauper, while the estate was up for a private sale.
