Bangladesh: Amnesty International welcomes the decision by the Bangladeshi authorities to bring 15 serving army officers before a court to face charges including enforced disappearances and torture, allegedly committed during the tenure of the previous government. This marks the first instance in which military personnel have been formally charged in connection with enforced disappearances in Bangladesh, representing a significant step towards accountability and justice for victims.

Amnesty International underscores the importance of full compliance with international human rights standards throughout the judicial process. This includes ensuring due process and fair trial guarantees, the use of civilian courts for the proceedings, and refraining from the application of the death penalty in accordance with international human rights obligations.

Today, the Office of the Chief Prosecutor of the International Crimes Tribunal filed formal charges at the Registrar’s Office against Mr. Hasanul Haq Inu, a former cabinet member of the Hasina regime.

পরে দীর্ঘ চিকিৎসা ও অস্ত্রোপচারের মাধ্যমে বাম চোখে বিদ্ধ গুলি অপসারণ করা হলেও চোখটি সম্পূর্ণরূপে অন্ধ হয়ে যায়। সাক্ষ্য অনুযায়ী, এখনো শরীরে কিছু গুলি রয়ে গেছে এবং তার দৃষ্টিশক্তি চরমভাবে ক্ষতিগ্রস্ত হয়েছে। বর্তমানে তিনি আট মাসের অন্তঃসত্ত্বা অবস্থায় থেকেও ন্যায়বিচার পাওয়ার প্রত্যাশায় আদালতে সাক্ষ্য প্রদান করেছেন।

Testimony of PW-03 Presented in the Case of State vs Sheikh Hasina and Others

In the case of State vs Sheikh Hasina and Others (ICT-BD Case No. 02/2025), Prosecution Witness–03 (PW-03), Parvin, has provided testimony before the Tribunal.

According to her statement, on 18 July 2024 in Jatrabari, she was shot by the police while attempting to help a young man who had already been injured. She sustained bullet wounds in the eye and other parts of her body. When brought to the hospital, she was initially denied treatment on grounds of being a “police case.”

Following prolonged treatment and surgery, a bullet was removed from her left eye, which is now permanently blind. According to the testimony, several bullets still remain in her body, and her vision is severely impaired. Despite being eight months pregnant, she appeared before the court to testify in the pursuit of justice.

The witness strongly urged the court to ensure that those responsible are brought to strict justice.

তার জবানবন্দিতে তিনি ১১ জুলাই ২০১৪ তারিখ বিকাল ৩.০০টার সময় গার্মেন্টস শ্রমিক ট্রাকিং এরিয়া থেকে পুলিশ বাহিনীর গুলিবর্ষণের ঘটনায় গুরুতর আহত হওয়ার বর্ণনা দেন। তিনি জানান, দুই পায়ে গুলিবিদ্ধ হয়ে পড়ে যাওয়ার পরও তাকে চিকিৎসা না দিয়ে বিভিন্ন হাসপাতালে ভর্তি করতে বাধা দেওয়া হয় এবং পরবর্তীতে তাঁকে মিটফোর্ড হাসপাতালে নিয়ে যাওয়া হয়।

সাক্ষী আরও উল্লেখ করেন যে, তাকে পরে গ্রেফতার দেখানো হয় এবং জেলে পাঠানো হয়, যেখানে দীর্ঘদিন চিকিৎসা না পেয়ে আরও শারীরিক ক্ষতির শিকার হন। সাক্ষী আদালতের প্রতি জোরালো অনুরোধ জানান, যাতে দায়ী ব্যক্তিদের কঠোর বিচারের আওতায় আনা হয়।

Testimony of PW-02 Presented in the Case of State vs Sheikh Hasina and Others

In the case of State vs Sheikh Hasina and Others (ICT-BD Case No. 02/2025), Prosecution Witness–02 (PW-02), Abdullah Al Imran, has provided testimony before the Tribunal.

According to his statement, on 11 July 2014 at around 3:00 PM, he was critically injured by gunfire allegedly fired by police forces in the Garments Tracking Area. He further stated that despite being shot in both legs, he was repeatedly denied admission to multiple hospitals and was eventually taken to Mitford Hospital.

The witness also testified that he was later shown as arrested and sent to jail where his condition worsened due to lack of proper medical care. The witness made a strong appeal to the Tribunal to ensure that the responsible individuals are brought to strict justice.

**Testimony of PW-01 Presented in the Case of State vs Sheikh Hasina and Others**

In the case of State vs Sheikh Hasina and Others (ICT-BD Case No. 02/2025), Prosecution Witness–01 (PW-01), Khokon Chandra Barman, has provided testimony before the Tribunal.

According to his statement, he sustained severe injuries from gunshot wounds and later survived after undergoing medical treatment.

The witness described incidents involving alleged indiscriminate firing by law enforcement personnel on unarmed civilians, the resulting deaths, and the subsequent difficulties faced during the collection of evidence and in accessing medical care.

During the hearing, a video recording was presented as part of the testimony, showing PW-01 lying injured at the scene. As per the testimony, this case is a significant step toward holding the responsible individuals accountable under the law.

আজ, ২ জুলাই ২০২৫, আন্তর্জাতিক অপরাধ ট্রাইব্যুনাল‑১‑এর তিন সদস্যের বেঞ্চ, প্রধান বিচারপতি জনাব মোঃ গোলাম মর্তুজা মজুমদারের নেতৃত্বে, আদালত অবমাননার ঘটনায় সাবেক প্রধানমন্ত্রী শেখ হাসিনাকে ৬ মাসের বিনাশ্রম কারাদণ্ডে দণ্ডিত করেছে । এটি ট্রাইব্যুনালের ইতিহাসে আদালতের আদেশ মেনে চলার বিষয়টিকে গুরুত্ব দিয়ে নেওয়ার প্রথম রায়।

চীফ প্রসিকিউটর মোঃ তাজুল ইসলাম বলেন:

Key Verdict by International Crimes Tribunal‑1 — Sheikh Hasina Sentenced to Six Months for Contempt

Today, 2 July 2025, a three-member bench of the International Crimes Tribunal‑1, led by Justice Md. Golam Mortuza Mozumder, sentenced former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to six months’ imprisonment for contempt of court . This verdict underscores the Tribunal’s commitment to enforcing compliance with court orders.

Chief Prosecutor Md. Tajul Islam stated:
“This verdict sends a clear message—no one is above the court, and judicial authority must be respected. Following strict legal procedure, we expect the accused to voluntarily surrender and comply with the judgment.”

The International Crimes Tribunal remains steadfast in enforcing accountability, upholding judicial order, and ensuring justice for crimes against humanity.

আজ, ২ জুলাই ২০২৫, আন্তর্জাতিক অপরাধ ট্রাইব্যুনালের রেজিস্ট্রার অফিসে আশুলিয়া হত্যাকাণ্ড–সংক্রান্ত মামলায় আনুষ্ঠানিক অভিযোগপত্র (Formal Charge) দাখিল করা হয়েছে ও ট্রাইব্যুনাল-২ অভিযোগটি আমলে গ্রহণ করেছে।

এই মামলায় ১৬ জনকে অভিযুক্ত করা হয়েছে, যাদের মধ্যে সাতজন বর্তমানে আদালতে উপস্থিত। অভিযুক্তদের মধ্যে রয়েছেন সাবেক সংসদ সদস্য সাইফুল ইসলাম ও আশুলিয়ার আওয়ামী লীগ এবং যুবলীগ নেতৃবৃন্দ।

২০২৪ সালের জুলাই মাসে আশুলিয়ায় ছয়জন নিরীহ যুবককে হত্যা করা হয় এবং পরবর্তীতে তাদের মরদেহ পুড়িয়ে ফেলা হয়। তদন্তে উঠে আসে, এটি একটি পূর্বপরিকল্পিত ও পদ্ধতিগত মানবতাবিরোধী অপরাধ ছিল।

প্রসিকিউটর মিজানুল ইসলাম বলেন:
“এই মামলাটি প্রমাণ করে যে, মানবতাবিরোধী অপরাধ যেখানেই হোক না কেন, আইনের আওতায় আনতেই হবে। অভিযুক্তদের বিচারের মুখোমুখি করার জন্য আন্তর্জাতিক অপরাধ ট্রাইব্যুনাল সর্বোচ্চ আন্তরিকতা ও আইনি পদ্ধতি অনুসরণ করছে।”

Formal Charge Filed in Ashulia Six-Victim Burning Case; ICT-2 Takes Cognizance

On 2 July 2025, a formal charge (accusation sheet) was submitted to the Registrar Office of the International Crimes Tribunal in connection with the Ashulia six-victim burning case. Following the submission, Tribunal-2 has officially taken cognizance of the charges.

The case charges 16 individuals, among whom 7 are currently in custody. The accused include former Member of Parliament Saiful Islam and several local leaders of the Awami League and Jubo League from the Ashulia region.

In July 2024, six innocent youths were brutally killed in Ashulia, and their bodies were later burned. The investigation revealed it to be a premeditated and systematic crime against humanity.

Statement from Prosecutor Mizanul Islam:
“This case proves that crimes against humanity—regardless of where they occur—must be brought under the rule of law. The International Crimes Tribunal is pursuing due legal process with the utmost commitment and integrity to ensure justice.”
