When a third person wants to join a congregation of two (imam + one follower), he may lightly tap the follower on the shoulder to indicate that he has joined. Then the follower steps back and both followers form a row behind the imam.

Qais bin Tihfah Al-Ghifari narrated from his father that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ found him sleeping on his stomach in the masjid. The Prophet ﷺ nudged him with his foot and said:

“Why are you sleeping like this? This is a kind of sleep that Allah dislikes,” or “that Allah hates.”
