Pleased to have graced the signing ceremony for the 40 MW Parochhu Hydropower Project.

This partnership between DGPC and Dasho Wangchuk Dorji of Tashi Group marks an important step in creating greater opportunities for Bhutanese private sector participation in our hydropower development.

Congratulations to DGPC and Dasho Wangchuk Dorji on this important milestone. I look forward to seeing more such partnerships contributing to Bhutan’s energy security and economic growth.

𝐅𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐒𝐡𝐚 𝐃𝐢𝐚𝐟𝐚𝐦(Jomotshangkha) 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐍𝐮𝐛 𝐓𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐮 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐰𝐞𝐬𝐭.

As part of my journey across southern Bhutan, I had the opportunity to visit the 18 MW Druk Bindu-I and 8 MW Druk Bindu-II Hydropower Projects at Tendruk, Samtse. It was encouraging to see the progress being made and to interact with the team working on the ground.

During the visit, I also met with Dzongkhag officials, Divisional Forest officials, officials from the Department of Geology and Mines, and a few industry promoters. It was a good opportunity to listen to their views and understand some of the issues and opportunities on the ground.

The journey from Sha Diafam to Nub Tendu has been a valuable opportunity to see developments firsthand, engage with people on the ground and better understand issues across our southern regions.

During my visit to Samdrup Jongkhar - the “Valley of Wish Fulfilment” - I had the opportunity to see firsthand the progress of the 90 MW Jomori Hydropower Project. Jomori takes its name from the river of revered Aum Jomo.

I was encouraged by the scale of work on the ground and the steady progress being made. Equally heartening was meeting the engineers, workers, contractors and project team whose collective efforts are driving the project forward.

Jomori is an important addition to Bhutan’s growing energy infrastructure. Beyond power generation, projects such as this can support local economic activity and contribute to the development of eastern Bhutan.

There is still work ahead, but the progress so far is encouraging.

My sincere appreciation to everyone contributing to this important project, and my best wishes for its continued safe and successful implementation.

May the “Valley of Wish Fulfilment” and the river of revered Aum Jomo live up to the promise carried in their beautiful names.
