Walking for Education Initiative – Community Action at Mophane Primary School:
On 14 March 2026, Mentorship for Excellence International hosted the Walking for Education Initiative at Mophane Primary School, Block 5, Gaborone, to engage active community citizens and encourage involvement.
The day begun with a 5 km community walk that celebrated education as a lifelong journey, fostering pride and unity among parents, teachers, and leaders committed to building a legacy of learning.
After the walk, teachers, PTA members, students, and community volunteers came together to clean, w**d, and beautify the school grounds — fostering shared responsibility and a sense of ownership for our children's future.
Building on this momentum, Mentorship for Excellence International is now working to refurbish the school gate and signage, demonstrating our shared commitment to creating a welcoming, child-friendly environment that reflects the strength and resilience symbolised by the Mophane tree.
Through this initiative, we aim to deepen community ownership of schools, fostering dignified learning environments and inspiring mentorship for learners, so everyone feels empowered to contribute.
When communities unite around education, real transformation happens.

A dedication to the students of Ikageng Community Junior Secondary School (CJSS) in Metsimotlhabe, Botswana
At sunrise in Gaborone, we walked not just for exercise, but for advocacy. We walked in solidarity because some of these students rise early and walk up to 14 kilometres a day to access education. We walked to echo their journey, to honour their resilience, and to say: your steps matter.
Mentorship for Excellence International is proud to partner with Ikageng CJSS—walking to mentor, walking to safeguard, walking to stand with them.
This is the Walking for Education Initiative. This is movement with meaning. This is legacy in motion.
