π§πΏ President of the Senate, Hon. Carolyn Trench Sandiford, represented Belize at the 22nd ParlAmericas Plenary Assembly and 10th Gathering of the Open Parliament Network held in Ottawa, Canada from May 19β22, 2026. πποΈ
During the Assembly, Madam President moderated a working table session focused on strengthening transparency, public engagement, and parliamentary oversight for better trade outcomes through Open Parliament principles. π€π
The gathering brought together parliamentarians and stakeholders from across the Americas and the Caribbean to discuss trade, innovation, democratic governance, regional cooperation, and sustainable development. πππ§πΏ

On Wednesday, 20th May 2026, the Joint Public Accounts Committee (JPAC) met at the National Assembly Building to continue its consideration of the Auditor Generalβs Report for the Financial Year April 2016 to March 2017.
The Committee has agreed to present its Second Report to the House of Representatives at the next House meeting in June 2026, in accordance with House Standing Order 74(1). ππ§πΏ

πβ¨ Learning beyond the classroom!
Today, Standard 5 and Standard 6 students from St. Michael R.C. School in San Felipe, Orange Walk, visited the National Assembly for an exciting Educational Tour. ποΈπ§πΏ
During their visit, students explored the Chambers, learned about Belizeβs parliamentary system, and gained a deeper understanding of the important role the National Assembly plays in the countryβs democracy.

ππ€ Over the past two days, the National Assembly of Belize had the pleasure of hosting Mr. Ariel Alvarado, Executive Secretary of the Forum of Presidents of Legislative Bodies of Central America and the Caribbean (FOPREL), during an official visit focused on collaboration and parliamentary engagement. π§πΏβ¨
π On Tuesday, Mr. Alvarado paid a courtesy visit to Honourable Speaker Valerie Woods and was given a guided tour of the National Assembly Building, exploring its history, function, and role in Belizeβs democracy.
π£οΈ On the second day of his visit, discussions continued with Honourable Ramon Cervantes and CEO in the Ministry of Education Mrs. Dian Mejia, alongside Clerk of the National Assembly Mrs. Clarita Pech and Parliamentary Officer Mr. Manuel Grant, fostering dialogue on shared priorities and regional cooperation.

π Yesterday, we welcomed the teachers of Corozal Church of Christ Primary School to the National Assembly of Belize during their Teachersβ Road Trip!
Their stop included a tour of the National Assembly Building, where they learned more about Parliament, its history, and the important work carried out within the Chambers. It was a fun and insightful visit filled with learning, laughter, and great conversations along the way. π
