Yesterday, we had the pleasure of welcoming representatives from the Meadow Lake Tribal Council to the Tsuut’ina Nation Police Service.

During their visit, we shared our approach to policing, discussed the best practices that help guide our work, and talked about how our service was established. It was a great opportunity to exchange knowledge, share experiences, and learn from one another.

Thank you to the Meadow Lake Tribal Council for spending time with us! We look forward to continuing to build relationships and supporting one another in serving our communities.

May is Motorcycle Safety Month, according to the Alberta Traffic Safety calendar. Motorcycles are smaller than other vehicles, which can make them harder to see on roadways and in parking lots. Staying safe starts with staying visible.

Motorcycle visibility tips:

• Wear reflective tape on your motorcycle, especially on wheel rims and areas closest to light sources. At night, this helps your bike stand out like a larger vehicle.

• Wear bright, high-visibility gear such as orange, yellow, or white to increase your visibility to other road users.

• Ride a brightly colored motorcycle when possible, as darker colors are harder to see.

• Avoid lingering in blind spots. Position yourself where you are clearly visible to other drivers at all times.

• Use your brakes as a signal if needed; a light tap can help alert drivers behind you to your presence.

Today, on International Missing Children’s Day, the Tsuut’ina Nation Police Service wants to recognize our partnership with the Missing Children Society of Canada.

The Missing Children Society of Canada has spent 40 years helping find missing children and supporting families. Their work continues to evolve, but the goal remains the same. Helping bring children home safely.

Through the MCSC Rescu app, community members can receive alerts, view active missing children cases by region, share information through their networks, and submit tips to police. This matters because many missing children do not meet AMBER Alert criteria, even when they may still be facing serious risks.

When a child is missing, every share, every tip, and every set of eyes can make a difference.

We encourage community members to register for MCSC Rescu and join the Digital Volunteer Network.

Throughout Canada Road Safety Week, Tsuut’ina Nation Police Service officers have been out in the community monitoring traffic safety, conducting check stops, and speaking with drivers about the choices that help keep our roads safe.

Speeding, distracted driving, impaired driving, fatigue, and failing to buckle up can all lead to serious consequences. Road safety is something we all share, whether we are driving, walking, cycling, or riding as passengers.

According to the CACP Canada Road Safety Week facts and stats booklet, Canada recorded 1,768 motor vehicle fatalities, 8,185 serious injuries, and 108,018 total injuries in 2021. Behind every number is a person, a family, and a community affected by a preventable collision.

Slow down. Drive sober. Put the phone away. Buckle up. Rest when you need to.

Thank you to everyone for making safe choices on our roads.

Seatbelts save lives.

Wearing a seatbelt is one of the simplest choices you can make to protect yourself and your passengers.

During Canada Road Safety Week, Tsuut’ina Nation Police Service officers will be out in the community monitoring traffic safety and speaking with drivers about the choices that help keep our roads safe.

According to the CACP Canada Road Safety Week facts and stats booklet, properly worn seatbelts can reduce the chance of death in a collision by 47% and the chance of serious injury by 52%. Proper child restraints can reduce the likelihood of death by 71% and injury by 67%.

Before you drive, take a moment to make sure everyone is buckled up. Children should be secured in the right car seat, booster seat, or seatbelt for their age, height, and weight. A short trip can still end in a serious collision.

Buckle up. Secure your passengers. Make it home safe.
